Guest guest
I am also a newly diagnosed person and, like Gwen, am extremely concerned about my fertility, being 28 with no kids, and greatly desiring to have a family in the future. Please, can we hear more from members of our group about fertility issues, and also, from people who have had treatment, and what their success has been with attempting to have children? I'm beginning to freak out a little on the issue. I have spoken with quite a few women who have had their fibroids removed, and they say that their doctors have assured them that their fertility has not been compromised, but none of these women have had or attempted to have children yet. My fibroid was guesstimated to be 3cm by my doctor, and I have changed my diet radically and begun taking chaste berry and red raspberry leaf to control their growth herbally, but I am terrified that if I wait too long, my ability to have children will be compromised. Since I've begun my dietary and herbal treatment, my periods are amazingly light, and I no longer have some of the " symptoms " that drove me to the doctor in the first place. This is encouraging, however, I'm very worried about the future. Does anyone have any input on this issue? (Gwen, I feel you! I could have written that letter myself!!) Thanks to all, Glenys
Guest guest
Glenys: As I wrote to Gwen, I am 31 and have had two myos already. I know what you are going through. I am on another message board where there are 3 women already who have gotten pregnant after their myos. I so far haven't because they have come back already. 3cm is fairly small so I wouldn't do anything about them just yet if you aren't married and not ready to have kids. It really depends on where it is located and if it is blocking the uterus. Right now I have one 9cm outside the uterus and it could be blocking my tubes. I think it depends on where you are in life right now. If you fibroids was growing every month like mine was when I went off the pill last year, then I would have it out. But if it is not bothering you and they are only detecting one, I would wait and see if it does grow. After a myo the chances of them coming back are high. But I do know other women who have had myos and the fibroids never came back. I just happen to be a fibroids breeder. I was 27 when I had my first myo but it was an emergency one where my fibroid was on a stalk and twisted causing severe pain. I didn't even know i had fibroids at the time. Both you and Gwen are doing your research which is great and so you know your options. Guest guest
Robyn, Thanks so much for your response. You helped to allay some of my fears. I have just had one of those paranoid weeks I guess. :-) Thanks again for your support. Glenys
Guest guest
Glenys and Gwen, I am 35 years old and also have fibroids. The largest one is 4cm. I am not married and I do hope to have children. I personally know of two women who had myomectomies and have had children after. If your fibroids are not big I would try alternative treatment before I opt for surgery. If you have not already done so, have an ultrasound to determine the size and location of your fibroids. Thereafter, aggresively try alternative treatments. Presently I have accupuncture treatments once a week and take herbs. I have already noticed changes in my menstrual cycle. Try this for six months and have another ultrasound done to determine if they have shrunk. Then make a decision based on the results. Good luck and God Bless Re: Fertility > I am also a newly diagnosed person and, like Gwen, am extremely concerned > about my fertility, being 28 with no kids, and greatly desiring to have a > family in the future.
