Dr. ,

As a resident of North Carolina, you may have an opportunity knocking at your door for promotion of UFE. On October 7-8 there is going to be a conference on UFE held by NIEHS that has the sole purpose of gathering scientists, doctors, etc. for examining current research re: uterine fibroids. (http://dir.niehs.nih.gov/dirlep/announce/conf.html) My guess is that there will be plenty of opportunity and interest in new stories surrounding uterine fibroids and treatment options around that time. You should get in touch with Landow, Director of Research for SCVIR/CIRREF for directions on how to tap into press releases that have been previously distributed to major newspapers whenever SCVIR has met to discuss UFE. Perhaps she could direct you on how to proceed with news releases that would correspond, in timing, with the upcoming conference on uterine fibroids in your state. (In fact, I know she is aware of the upcoming conference in your state and may already be tapped into what kind of news releases are planned. You should definitely contact her.)

Hello Everyone:I am an Interventional Radiologist with 14 years of experience.I practice in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, a small city in the eastern part of the state.Last June (1999), I performed my first uterine fibroid embolization. My fifth is scheduled for next week. Technically my procedures have been successful. Clinical results have so far been encouraging.I presented this new procedure to many local gynecologists, and have received a fair reception. As you would expect there has beena mix of interest and skepticism.I have " listened in " to the group over the last month. Listening toyour concerns/ questions has helped me a great deal to anticipate my patients concerns.Does the group have any suggestions as to how to promote embolization as an alternative? At least one gynecologist has agreed to help promote the procedure.Thank You,G. Tillman ,MDtillmanbailey@...
