Guest guest
hey karen, i started using a chiropractor in 1997. i go about twice a month. it does seem to bring me some relief. i can definatly tell when i need to go. the only thing i do not like is traction on my neck. lower back fine. adjustments to my neck fine. but something about traction......i work for a chiropractor now so my adjustments are free now. my old insurance only covered $1000/yr. medicare ususally covers 12 visits a year. i had one that was also a naprapath. they did alot of massage and heat packs that were wonderful!!!! of coarse my appts then would last almost 2 hours, but it was great. it was hard for me to give him up once i started working at the other. i actually thought about paying out of my pocket. but i can't>>> oh well kathy in il
Guest guest
I tried one for a while. I got to the point where I could not relax because I was worried it would hurt. It often did. I found much better results with a massage therapist.

Guest guest
, my person opinion is not to go to a chiropractor but that is not to say you wouldn't benefit from seeing one. My suggestion is to try a registered massage therapist, one that has a good knowledge of RA. I was very leery of going but my dil talked me into it and I am so glad she did. The girl I see is very aware of which joints hurt me the most and it depends on how I feel as to how deep she massages. I come out of there so relaxed I could fall asleep. In the beginning I was going once a week, mainly for neck and shoulders and now I go maybe once every two or three months. The pain in my neck and shoulders is very minimal at the moment and I have to give her full credit for this. Again, I have nothing against chiropractors and it is just my preference to see a massage therapist. Hugs June [ ] Use of Chiropractors- Anyone tried and gotten relief?? Has anyone tried going to a chiropractor? Our staff meeting featured a local well respected chiropractor- mostly tips on desk excercise, postures, lifting, etc.. My rheumatologist basically has not outlawed anything - as long as it does no harm- she says go for it. I have RA - do some yoga and the usually amount of drugs (MTX and Remicade and the dreaded pred and all the stomach meds that has entailed.) Anyone here tried a chiro for some symptoms? Any luck? Any problems?Thought if nothing else it could reduce some stress related stuff. (Still not sure about job/lay off status- and it has impacted on RA). Guest guest
My son works for a chiropractor (does the set ups) and I go there once in a while. I am amazed at how much it helps me to go. She works on my hands by putting moist heat on for 15 minutes, then doing an ultrasound. The first time I went I thought I was probably wasting my time but could not believe the relief immediately afterwards. The ultrasound and heat help the circulation. It also does something like release something (can't remember the official names) to help promote healing. Not that we can be healed but it does help. I bought the heating pads that she uses at Sally Beauty Supply. They are mitts that heat up. I put lotion on my hands, then vinyl gloves on, then put the mitts on. It really brings a lot of relief at home. Guest guest
I have been going to the chiropractor for years(since about 1990)and they have helped me,some more than others-you may have to try several before you find one that is right for you.Be advised I was only recently dx'd with an autoimmune problem so I have not been on any of the meds so weakened bones and ligaments has not been a concern. I've made major changes in my diet and I feel better so depending on test results next month hopefully I can avoid the meds for yet awhile. Guest guest
I've been getting chiropractic care on and off for 14 years. I've seen half a dozen different docs. After getting diagnosed with RA, I carefully sought and found a very gentle chiropractor who has knowledge of RA. (I made sure he was aware that RA can cause cervical spine instability--a serious concern with neck adjustments.) I get tremendous relief from chiropractic care. Guest guest
My rheumy gave me the okay to use the chiropractor. He actually was excited that I had full access to one since my son worked there and could regularly do the ultrasound on my hands as needed. The chiropractor cautioned, however, that since I had just had a cortisone injection in my knee, that she would not use the ultrasound on my knee. She told me why but I can't remember. She said moist heat only for my knee at home as needed. I've never had any adjustments at all. The heat, ultrasound, and massage were all. Chiropractors do not just do adjustments, or at least some do other things. This one does acupuncture, massage, nutrition, etc. Becky Re: [ ] Use of Chiropractors- > Anyone tried and gotten relief?? > > > hey karen, i started using a chiropractor in 1997. > i go about twice a month. > it does seem to bring me some relief. i can > definatly tell when i need to go. > the only thing i do not like is traction on my > neck. lower back fine. > adjustments to my neck fine. but something about > traction......i work for a > chiropractor now so my adjustments are free now. > my old insurance only covered $1000/yr. > medicare ususally covers 12 visits a year. i had > one that was also a > naprapath. they did alot of massage and heat packs > that were wonderful!!!! of coarse > my appts then would last almost 2 hours, but it > was great. it was hard for me > to give him up once i started working at the > other. i actually thought about > paying out of my pocket. but i can't>>> oh well > kathy in il > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been > removed] > > > >
Guest guest
Becky Is this chiropractor that also does nutrition and acupuncture certified in these areas? (I'm not sure if certification is the right word - but received formal education in these areas beyond what they received in chiropractic school?) Just wondering... Guest guest
Thanks for the responses, everyone. My insurance will cover - 24 visits a year- at least as long as I remain insured. I hear lay off announcements are due early this week. Beware the Ides of March I guess. I know I can COBRA- assuming the unemployment benefits will conver the cost. Sorry for complaining. I know others have situations I would not trade with that can't be fixed with a new job. I have been pretty much working for the last 22 years straight ( same profession not same employer- and the thought of being jobless....of course right before my 50th birthday - is scary. I guess I have to look at this a new chapter. This is a great and caring group. > My rheumy gave me the okay to use the chiropractor. Guest guest
Thanks June. I would like to see a massage therapist. Actually my doctor recommended a massage being done. Guest guest
- The pain did occur to me. I appreciate the alternate suggestion. Guest guest
, that is my kind of doctor, compassion and humour, key elements. I work with Ed Keystone(head of research and known world wide) teaching his med students. He gives me a hug and a kiss on the cheek when introducing me,teases me about my hitting on him etc. The students love him and hang on every word he utters. I am not his patient but I know he always gives his patients a hug when they enter his office and again when they leave. Hugs June Thanks June. I would like to see a massage therapist.
