Guest guest
I am scheduled for a bone density test this week, and wondered if anyone out there has had one. I am sure if anyone has had it you all probably have!!!!! What do they do ? This is " hopefully " the last test I have to go through. I had Colin cancer in 1974 and some of the tests were from the enstein movie....then in 1989 breast cancer, so I am not a novice at this, but I still get nervous just thinking about it. Thanks for all of your support...Cece...
Guest guest
The kind I get involves a radioisotope tracer and three scans. Wasn't sure if you were getting the DEXA scan or another kind. When I get them, they inject me through a tiny catheter in a vein, and do a scan immediately, then one about 20 minutes later. Then they send me to the movie theatre down the road, drink a lot of fluid, watch whatever doesn't look terrible, then go back for the final scan. The machine moves back and forth while I lay on the table. I think the DEXA is just an x-ray without contrast/tracer. You just lie there and it makes two passes. I've never been unclothed for it, since the detector picks up the radioisotope and not metal. If you get the DEXA, they may ask you to wear clothes with no metal, or ask you to gown up. Good luck! Guest guest
My 16 year old daughter had a bone density test when she was first diagnosed with Crohn's. It was no big deal at all. She says you lay down on a table fully clothed and they pass the machine. I think they measure wrist and spine points. Good luck. wrote: I am scheduled for a bone density test this week, and wondered if anyone out there has had one. Cece
Guest guest
The bone density test I had was the easiest test I have ever had done. I simply lay on a table all of my clothes on, they had no metal on them, like no snaps on jeans, and this scanner type thing ran over my body stopped, started again, ran a second time, then it was done. I got up, left and went home, piece of cake! The machine was I would guess a good 2 feet above me. Gwen " cehubie@...
