Networking will start at 5:30 PM with presentations beginning at 6:00 PM. Janet Helm M.S., R.D. is the Executive Vice President and Director of Food and Nutrition for Weber Shandwick, where she provides strategic counsel to a variety of food and beverage clients – including the national Got Milk? campaign. Janet has combined nutrition and communications into a career that has spanned more than 20 years and was one of the first registered dietitians to break into the field of public relations. Janet is also a regular columnist for the Chicago Tribune’s Good Eating section and ABC News.com. Additionally, she has contributed articles to Cooking Light, Relish, Smart Cooking, First for Women, American Profile and Environmental Nutrition, and has been quoted extensively in magazines and newspaper food sections. She has been a frequent guest on television, including Today, Good Morning America, CNN, WMAQ in Chicago and many network affiliates. Janet served as a national media spokesperson for The American Dietetic Association and has conducted hundreds of media interviews addressing a variety of nutrition issues – from the latest diet fad to school lunch and children’s nutrition. Feder R.D. is editor of Wellness Foods magazine (winner of 2006 ASBPE award) and managing editor of Food Processing magazine, both part of the Putman Media Group, Inc. A former food science and nutrition lab instructor at the University of Texas at Austin, he completed coursework and research toward a Ph.D. in nutrition biochemistry. From the 1970’s until 1990 he was a prominent chef as well as a freelance food and travel writer. In 1995 he became a full-time journalist, working as a food and nutrition editor at Better Homes and Gardens magazine before becoming editor of the award-winning LightStyle magazine. Sara Reddington is Project Manager with Little Lady Foods, a custom food manufacturer in the Chicago area. She has combined her passion for great-tasting food with a career spanning more than 20 years in the food industry. Prior to moving into the food manufacturing arena, Reddington held positions with a food communications PR agency, was culinary director for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and cookbook publisher for Publications International, Ltd. She also ran a thriving consulting practice working for clients such as Surrey Books and The Pampered Chef. These three are known experts in the field of communications and will share their insights on various nutrition communication skills including, - the basics of writing - how to start writing - recipe development and analysis - how to publish articles in consumer magazine, newspapers and trade publications Location & Parking: Loyola University Chicago, Rubloff Auditorium located at 25 E.
