Guest guest
I think I read on here recently (was it an article from ?) something about a link between celiac disease and autoimmune disease. I'm wondering what the frequency is on this list of people with irritable bowel syndrome and/or celiac disease. I was told a few years before my autoimmune stuff started that I had ibs (biopsies from a sigmoidoscopy were negative for Crohn's). A few years later, hypothyroidism was diagnosed, a few years later probable RA. Now we aren't sure what it is, but I'm on Plaquenil. I'm now waiting on blood tests to come back testing me for celiac disease, and was wondering who else out here has been diagnosed with it? Guest guest
Hi , I don't have RA, but I do have Dercum's Disease, which, while still a relative newcomer in the world of diseases (only 100 years old and little if any research being done)is considered a good candidate as an autoimmune disease. I also have IBS, and recently started a course of treatment with Zelnorm. I asked my doctor if I'd be able to wear the low-rise jeans and draw funny pictures around my navel. LOL! Seriously, though, after a week the symptoms have abated, and I no longer feel like I have the belly of a sumo wrestler. Someone asked me what it felt like to have IBS, and I said " well, first you don't " go " for about 4 days, then when you do " go " it feels like giving birth to a 16-lb. bowling ball (or 2). Then you don't stop " going " for a day or 2, so you can't get far from a potty, and the cramps feel like you're being tied in a gordian knot. Don't even THINK about passing gas, because it just might not be gas...And then it starts all over again. This person now has a healthy respect for ibs, and you have my sincere empathy! I suppose I should mention the possibility of celiac to the doctor, but I just don't want to think about yet another disease to add to the list, and since the Zelnorm is working I won't rock the boat!
