Calculating BMI

Adjusted BMI for amputees:

Weight E (kg)

HT (m) x HT(m)

for amputees:

Weight E = Weight C

(1-P)

E=Estimated

C=Current wt (post amputaion)

P=Percent amputation

Example: 5'8 " 135 lbs with a BKA

AKA 10.4% (1-P)= 0.896 (1- 0.104)

BKA=7.1% (1-P)=0.929 (1- 0.071)

135 divided by 0.929 X 705 = 22.1

68 x 68

For a bilat amputee, then you would do P = 1-14.2% (or 1 - 0.142) = 0.858

using above example I get BMI of 23.98

Of course you'd have to know the person's pre-amputation HT
