Guest guest
Dear , I had a myomectomy 12 years ago and then two C-sections and don't think that there was any difference in response for me over the longer term from these various surgeries. My fibroids are back now and causing a lot of problems so I am trying to figure what is the best way to resolve the problem without risking impacting my sexual response. For all I know now having fibroids again might affect uterine contractions to some extent -- my uterus is definitely enlarged, misshapen, etc., but if so I think the effect is pretty minor or nondiscernable. I would expect effect of myomectomy could depend on a lot of factors -- how extensive is the surgery required and the skill of the surgeon being a couple of them. I was really amazed at my ob-gyn's ignorance on female sexual response when he first started discussing hysterectomy with me a couple of years ago -- his understanding was so primitive it seemed not worth the effort to mention this issue to him again (probably not his fault, but still it was an eye-opener for me). When a woman gynecologist can't see the connection, it is really troubling. Orgasm and Myomectomy Hello, It seems that after reading the letters on this message board it has explained to me why my orgasm have almost but disappeared since my fibroids have gotten to be quite large. (My uterus is supposedly like a 6 month pregnancy). I asked my gynocologist if fibroids would affect orgasm, and she said it shouldn't, as the orgasm occurs in the vagina. From everybody else here, uterine contraction is also a part of the big " O " , which mine no longer is capable of, it seems. Can anyone tell me the affect of a myomectomy with respect to the ability to acheive orgasm? Will I lose the ability to orgasm? Or will it improve? I am SO impressed by your surgical experience (ha ha).....I mean, here I am sweating one myo and you have been thru 3 similar surgeries....gosh....would you mind telling us a bit about anesthesia....did you have epidurals during the c-sections and general for the myo? ....some docs offer epidural for myo...what do you think? How were the epidurals? Do they hurt? Did you feel anything? The big chicken in me is showing. -Candace
Guest guest
I'm 45; I had my first myomectomy at age 33. I've heard some doctors say that if I had a second myomectomy now they wouldn't come back because I am semi-close to menopause; however, I think that assumes that I wouldn't do HRT after menopause which I may or may not want to and then I think any estrogen source can bring fibroids back. Guest guest
As far as the orgasm issue, I have large 16wk size uterus with possible adenomyosis, however, I still have uterine orgasm (of which most doctors don't even know about or poo poo!)
