Thank you Steve! You said it all. i come across this stupid belief myself and

see it written too, just like this article.

A pharmacist told me that all these reported deaths of celebrities who had some

kind of pharmaceutical in their blood -had *alcohol* in the mix too.(which we

know almost always is a synergistic combination).

Thank you again.

Re: Chronic Pain Fuels Boom in Opioids

Wow! What a steaming load!

Aside from the glaring factual errors, there is a lot of transference. The

anti-opioid lobby is claiming that the pro opioid lobby is doing exactly

what they're doing. Did anyone notice how that article makes it sound like

opioids are easy to get?

What world are these people living in?

Did drug companies fund research that has expanded access to opioids? Yes.

Is the research still valid? Yes. The drug companies had to spend so much

because no one ever did any research before. Also, the anti-opioid lobby

spends just as much (and frequently more) lobbying against opioids.

Opioids are no great evil. They can be used for good or evil. They can end

suffering and they can cause addiction if not used correctly.

Hi--

Just needed to say this... As a recovering (nearing 14 yrs; will say opiates

were not the 'drug of choice' BUT drug is a drug...). A good number of people I

know in recovery do say that once someone is ill and there is a certain level of

pain, no way to relieve it and the prescibed choice DOES happen to be an opiate,

then .. you do what you must do. ANY fool would keep in mind, would KNOW, be

well aware thanks to media, thanks to those idiotic-beyond-belief-so-called

'reality' rehab places (a bad joke to me in any case who is 12 step groups, not

some country club trip and a doc who courts the cameras!)that there doers exist

risks with any opiate. AND anyone taking an opiate will know if it is too

strong; doubt anyone would continue taking ANYTHING making them feel worse.

Caregivers also note how someone is doing. What was said about booze and opiates

or with this class of drug is also true. I still recall a case back in the '70's

about a young comatose woman who'd gone into a coma after a night spent drinking

on top of pills. Think it was her parents and the riht to take her off a

ventilator; I do not completely remember this case, simply that it dragged on

and the kid was so very young. These drugs CAN do awful things if abused, but

they also have a purpose. I personally have to and always will tip toe around

them. Mostly grit m damn teeth rather than take 'em. And I dislike pain, but

hey;I have serious pain and they are prescribed? I'll take them cautiously as

needed and see. My sponser does this as well. I do NOT speak for all in 12 step

groups; I am but ONE human who happens to also be a recovering addict-drunk who

happens to have CFS/ME and Fibro. Oh; and one cantankerous damn dog who is too

strong!
