> Dear a, , & Everyone:

>However, one week ago, my cat jumped on my chest> Sincerely,

I had a similar situation last summer but not because of my cats.

I had a cast on my right arm and fell while out for a walk trying to

get a little exercise. In that millisecond, not wanting to fall on

my cast, I fell right directly onto my chest and injured my ribs.

I didn't bother with x-rays but went to doc several days later and

only treatment they prescribed was pain killers. But like you and

your respiratory difficulties, I have mine too, and ended up getting

a nasty infection. Luckily at that app't I was able to provide a

sputum specimen and was treated with proper antibiotics. The pain

took closer to 6 weeks til I was able to really be comfortable. I

also use a nebulizer 4 times/day and that helps to keep lungs open.

,

The pain you describe sounds unbearable, and I wish your doctors knew for

sure what was causing the pain.

I¹ve had several episodes of intense chest pain when I inhale, but these

episodes only last a few hours.

I never know what brings them on and they go away on their own. Doctor¹s

always looked at me like

I was nuts when I describe the episode and ask what it is. Some articles

I¹ve read suggest repeating

the x-ray for a fractured rib a week later when nothing shows up on the

x-ray but a fracture is suspected.

Ultrasound finds rib fractures missed by x-ray

Approximately 50% of all fractures go undetected during screening chest

radiography

A number of acute pain conditions such as pain from rib fractures and

post-surgical pain can also be controlled well with nerve block techniques

I hope you feel better.

, I'm very sorry that you are in so much pain without definite

answers.

I believe I've had a broken rib before thanks to a strong, overly

enthusiastic person who gave me a tremendous bear hug. I was in pain for

weeks, but never went to the doctor about it (Shhhh! Do as I say, not as

I do, LOL.). I just assumed that's what is was.

If I were you, since your physician is suggesting a nerve block, I think

I'd go for it. There is no reason to suffer. You have enough painful

issues already.

Of course, you need to be extra vigilant for any signs of complications,

especially infection.

Good luck. Please let us know how you are doing.

By the way, how big is your cat?

I'll tell you where to go!

Dear a:

Thank you for your kind words and thoughts.

I appreciate your kind response.

I am dealing with the pain as best as I can, but as you know this can be

difficult. It does seem a little better today but I have a feeling this is

going

to last a good while.

Thank you again

Sincerely,
