Guest guest
Dreamer, " mood alteration " is listed as one of the side effects for MTX. Have you been faithfully taking folic acid along with you MTX since you started it? I agree that it's very difficult to sort out possible side effects and interactions when you have several conditions and multiple medications. AAFP " A Family Physician's Guide to Monitoring Methotrexate " : http://www.aafp.org/afp/20001001/1607.html I'll tell you where to go! I am pretty weel versed in depressions and such- I have been bipolar (manic depression) for many years, my child s bipolar and my husband is, too. Yes, such an illness would definetly be capable of causing depression very easily in anyone. It IS very common for people with any chronic illness or disability to become depressed. > One of the side effects for MTX does have something to do with moods- I cannot remember how it was worded- umm... gosh it does not come to mind right now. Bipolar people generaly cannot take antidepressans, though. I do know I have had the RA active and flaring with no remission for 3 years now- but becuz of insurance etc- I could not begin treatement for the RA until this Feb. By March I was suicidal. Maybe it was that I expected more from the MTX? The good news is I am not near that depressed now. BUT people in my bipolar support groups did wonder if the MTX might have had something to do with it. GOsh it is quite a job to untangle med interactions and reactions and illness manifestations etc. It can get so complicated.
