Guest guest
As I mentioned to Tawny, last night was not a very good night. We had just sat down to an early supper before our Bible study class (which is held at our house.) The phone rang, and it was our daughter . One of the babies, Randy, had gotten his hand caught in the VCR while she was getting dinner ready, and cut his fingers badly. Ron jumped in the car and drove out there to sit with the other 3 so she could drive Randy in to the hospital (her fiance, Tom, started a new job yesterday, and wasn't home yet.) As it turned out, the cuts weren't serious, but they did have to bandage his hand which frustrated him terribly as those are the fingers he prefers to suck on. Ron didn't get home until nearly 9, very tired and shaky from no dinner. was tired, upset with herself (of course, blamed herself for not watching and protecting her baby, hard to do when you've got 4) and upset from an injured baby, wondering where Tom was, who didn't get home until nearly 10 PM (he quit that job--he was delivering appliances for Sears, worked 12 hours with no breaks allowed.) This morning when they got up Randy, the poor injured baby, was wheezing and congested. She called me and I came in to work to fill in for her while they took him in to the doctor, and he has asthma. So now they have to start him on breathing treatments and do allergy testing. Her ex-husband is being nasty, blaming HER for this but he has joint custody, lives with his mother, and the children are in a smoke-filled house every other weekend. I saw an oncologist yesterday who is going to take over treatment of my Dercum's, and in the next 2 weeks is planning to do some research and speak to colleagues and pharmaceutical companies, but his feeling is that he would like to start me on chemotherapy. He found a melon- sized mass in my upper abdomen, and another in my left buttock and right calf. He thinks I either have one in my right kidney, or the start of kidney disease. More testing has been scheduled to rule that out. He thinks that I've had enough surgery, that liposuction would be too traumatic, but that chemo might reverse the course of the disease. I've got to do some serious thinking in the next 2 weeks and of course some praying too, and maybe he will find that it really isn't the best thing, but in the research he has already done, he has found that several people with Dercum's were treated with chemo and were helped. It would mean 3 treatments a week for 6 months. Not exactly something to look forward to, but then maybe I'd look nice in a blond wig? Seriously, though, if it gives hope to the other people with Dercum's, I'd do it in a New York minute. So there we are folks. I'm staying positive, keeping happy. No stiff upper lip, hard to make people understand what you're trying to say. Gonna be as goofy as ever, but try to watch myself with green markers. (See my post to Tawny.) Peace and grace to all, with the promise of a joyous Easter ahead, Judi
