Guest guest
Hello , I agree with Karina, since “urinary incontinence†is one of the most dreaded side effects of prostate cancer surgery or radiation. The term “urinary insufficiency†does exist in the English literature and so does “Harninsuffizienz†in German although it is not widely used in either language and is synonymous with “bladder insufficiency†(which at least does not sound as ridiculous as “urinary insufficiencyâ€). Very strictly speaking the term “insuffisance urinaire†is not synonymous with “incontinence urinaire†and I have come across a wide range of definitions both in the same and different languages. In addition, we all know that medical terms are often used in a rather loose sense (euphemistic understatement ☺). However, given your context, I am very much inclined to assume that the author is referring to “urinary incontinenceâ€. Also, I am not aware of a grading system for “urinary insufficiency†classifying this syndrome into grades 1 through 3, whereas such system is commonly applied to classify urinary incontinence after pelvic/prostate surgery (http://www.ami.at/en/index.php4?m1id=3 & m2id=94 & m3id=280). My two cents, Astrid Von: medical_translation [mailto:medical_translation ] Im Auftrag von karina clement Gesendet: Dienstag, 17. Insuffisance in this context probably means that the sphincter is deficient. Usually in French one speaks of " incontinence urinaire du troisième degré " . I would double check with the customer. Good luck. ________________________________ De : Hutchings À : medical_translation Envoyé le : Mardi 17 Janvier 2012 11h40 Objet : FR>EN term " insuffisance urinaire " In a paper concerning management of the recurrence of prostate cancer concerning the morbidity of a particular treatment is the sentence: Le taux d’insuffisance urinaire de grade 3 est ainsi passé de 11 % à 9 %, celui de la pose de sphincter artificiel de 20 % à 6 % et celui de fistule uréthro rectale de 9 % à 0 % Is " Insuffisance urinaire " a different entity to renal impairment/insufficiency? Google gives very few hits for the term which I have not met before. Where I can find it, via Google, the context is almost always non-scientific. Again, help would be most welcome. ------------------------------------ URL: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/medical_translation In case of any problem with this list, you can reach the moderator at cgtradmed@....
