Guest guest
My husband also has very itchy skin. And when he scratched too much or to long or too hard he leaves bruise kind of spots. I use regult Lorimar on his skin. The moisture is usually enough to help. I like dermasil the best, and lubriderm. They seem to moisturize his skin the best. Hope this helps. Also aveno makes an oatmeal lotion you may want to try. > > I found your site today while googling Cirrhosis and itchy skin. My dad is in the later stages of Cirrhosis and has horrible itchy skin on his back. His doctor had him on a daily Prednisone for some time and, of course, this started causing problems. Currently, he is taking luke warm showers and we re putting Benadryl on his skin. He is also taking Benadryl allergy medicine. > > I read that an oatmeal bath would be helpful, however due to his declined health and physical mobility, he is unable to get in and out of the bathtub. > > In my internet searches I found the following of which may be helpful. > cod liver oil > hydrocortisone cream > Lidocaine > Calamine > Camphor > corticosteroid creams > benzocaine > Vanicream > > Any ideas and suggestions would be most appreciated. >
Guest guest
I'm curious about this symptom. I've seen it on lists of symptoms, of course, but it's always vague. To others who have dealt with this: Can the itch be anywhere? Is it usually all over, or confined to a specific area of the body? Is there a lot of variation from person to person? I'm having trouble making sense of anything that's going on with my body right now. I'm on so many meds to control complications, and there are so many symptoms I'd brushed off as normal or due to stress (like fatigue) that sometimes I just don't know what's caused by my failing liver and what isn't. I think I might have the itchy skin, but then again, maybe I'm just itchy sometimes? Thanks to anyone who can give more info! > > > > I found your site today while googling Cirrhosis and itchy skin. Guest guest
I think it varies from patient to patient, because the previous post was about the back, my husbands is his arms. It does not seem to be constant, but his is consistently on his arms. I personally think it is related to dry skin. I think so because, when i put on the regular lotion, it seems to make it go away for a few days, until he is all dry again. Hope this persons perspective is helpful to you. Guest guest
Personally I have no real knowledge! Dry and itchy skin was a big part of Hep C treatment. Nobody ever likes this idea and I read it online by a Dr. Plain ordinary old Petroleum Jelly!! If you apply it right away after " damp " drying, it will keep the moisture in the skin. Ok, that was back in 2004/2005. The next time I had it again was 2009. That's when I discovered that Vaseline had some new and very good lotions. One of them was called something like " intensive care " . I've heard other people recommend Gold Bond. This is interesting to me; because, I hadn't realized that the dry itchy skin would be part of a failing liver. Don't know why I never thought about it, it really does make sense. I would really like to learn more about the oatmeal bath. Guest guest
Hi group... Here are some good articles related to itchy skin and liver problems. Check them out. Itchy skin was one of my first symptoms of my liver problems, so I read many articles that dealt with " puritus " , itchy skin. Here are a couple of articles that may help you understand what is causing the itchiness. Sandy " The uncontrollable itching that comes with liver problems happens when the liver can no longer perform its job of filtering toxins out of the body, according to the University of Illinois Medical Center. As the bile and wastes build up in your blood, they make the skin incredibly itchy, especially at night " Read more: _Does Itching Indicate Liver Problems? | eHow.com_ (http://www.ehow.com/facts_5795716_itching-indicate-liver-problems_.html#ixzz1n7\ ki1kct) _http://www.ehow.com/facts_5795716_itching-indicate-liver-problems_.html#ixz z1n7ki1kct_ (http://www.ehow.com/facts_5795716_itching-indicate-liver-problems_.html#ixzz1n7\ ki1kct) _http://www.livestrong.com/article/401667-itchy-skin-liver-problems/_ (http://www.livestrong.com/article/401667-itchy-skin-liver-problems/) _http://www.ehow.com/facts_5795716_itching-indicate-liver-problems_.html?ref =Track2 & utm_source=ask_ (http://www.ehow.com/facts_5795716_itching-indicate-liver-problems_.html?ref=Tra\ ck2 & utm_source=ask)
