Guest guest
What is a leaking liver? And how do they seal the leak? Has anyone else ever heard of this?
Guest guest
I've never heard it called leaking liver, but I believe it is what I have. While I was driving truck over the road I use to eat one time a day, drink about a twenty ounce bottle of diet dew, eat no breaded foods (helps keep you from craving sweets) took along a lot of fruit to replace any snack foods. I did this for the last 4 years of driving but still kept putting on weight. I basicly looked like a water balloon and weighted over 320 lbs. After seeing multiple doctors one of them was showing me the different stages which I figured I was at stage 2, maybe 3 and he told me I was at stage 4 cirrhosis. He basicly told me that my liver wasn't sending all the fluids to the right location. He never used the words " Leaking Liver " which is kinda why it caught me off guard. At first I was sent to a pulminary doctor to find out why I was having breathing problems and he wasn't sure since the lungs showed they were working great. When I got back from seeing him I got a call from my family doctor's assistant saying the doc wanted to see me. When I got there they took me to a different room and I asked what's up and the nurse informed me I was there to get fluid out of my left lung. When the surgeon came in and informed me of draining the fluid from between lung and the protective sack surround the lungs. After enjoying the lovely loooong needle stuck in from the back he said I might get a little light headed when the fluid lowers my lungs would take in a lot more oxygen since the fluid was squashing my lungs. After 2.6 liters I did get a little light headed but worth it. It was weird not having to work to breath again. That's when they sent me to the liver/kidney doctor who found that I was at stage 4. He put me on a lot of meds to help drain the fluid. I was kind of shocked when he said he was surprised I was still alive and went on to say that the fluid was squashing my stomach to a smaller size then the people that have their stomach stapled. He put me on 80mg of furosemide and 100mg spironolactone diuretics to get rid of the fluids. In the first 15 days I lost 30+ lbs and another 30 lbs by the end of the month. Now with the progression of the cirrhosis I'am up to 360 to 420mg total of both just to maintain my current weight of 230 lbs. I actually had about 8 gallons of excess fluid in me which might be why I looked like a giant water balloon. I'am also on 25,000 units of vitamin " A " and 50,000 units of vitamin " D " plus 40mg of nadolol and 40mg of omeprazole. Some of the side effects of these meds are ITCHY skin, light headedness, ringing in the ears, breast enlargement, sensitive areas.(nipples) Now some ladies may like the idea of larger breast but I'am a 55 year old MALE and don't feel the need for it. My wife years ago would sometimes mention that her nipples were sensitive and I never really thought that much about it until one day when I went to slide a pack of gum into my shirt pocket and about freaked out and my wife said " problems? " and I told her that my nipples hurt. My wife of course (with a hugh grin on her face) was enjoying the hell out of this and couldn't wait to say " You didn't listen to me years ago so now you can suffer " . As time goes on I have to keep adjusting the amounts of duiretics to control the fluid. When I tried to cut back on how much fluids I drank to keep the fluids down I would get dehydrated and itiching got worse and the very painful leg cramps you can't get rid of and light headedness and louder ringing in the ears. Once I started drinking a lot of fluid for a few days, cramps, lightheadedness, and ringing went away but I had to up the duiretics for a short time and then adjust back down until fluid stablized. I hoped this helped you in some way without boring you to death. Mike > > What is a leaking liver? And how do they seal the leak? Guest guest
I had fluid removed from my left lung after my triple bypass. Instead of getting over oxidized, my lung collapsed and I thought I was going to die. Gasping for breath at the other one was more than 1/2 full too. Then they told me this was normal. If it was normal, why didn't they tell me before it collapsed so I would expect it. Jan > > I've never heard it called leaking liver, but I believe it is what I > have. Guest guest
Very scary feeling isn't it Jan?? After the liver resection, my right lung got pneumonia. They put a drain in; but, either that night or the next, I was gasping for breath and honestly thought this was it. Boy, did people ever come running. I managed to tell the night nurse to use my cell and call my husband. THEN, they found that the drain hose was kinked. I'll tell you, I sure feel sorry for children and adults that have Cystic Fibrosis. Or anyone that ever has to struggle to breath. ________________________________  I had fluid removed from my left lung after my triple bypass. Guest guest
My husband, , is at esld, and on hospice. Before he was put on hospice, he was in the hospital, to get a parascentesis, they said his liver was leaking. They never elaborated on that statement. Unfortunately, he was in the ER part if the hospital and my kids weren't allowed in, so I couldn't ask questions. Then before his hospital room was ready, they discharged him. I still don't know what his liver was leaking. I guess now it doesn't really matter now. It was just something I wondered about. I like to know what's going in with him. > >> > >> What is a leaking liver? And how do they seal the leak? Guest guest
I went and called up that " Leading Liver " . Of course, it is very much tied to the cirrhosis and it could be abcesses on the liver that are bursting. ________________________________  My husband, , is at esld, and on hospice.
