I'll have to chime in, I had plenty of time to do many other things in the last

few months... is it just me or the situation looks particularly bad for EN-IT?

Pharma companies and CRO's are only translating the bare minimum these days.

I don't think it is specific to that combination, on other lists a

translator in Spain I know who I think does not do medical but is very

top flight described the general economic situation in Spain as " ghastly " .

That word is one I have not seen in years. It is word I would expect in

a horror story, and she is careful with language.

On the other hand, Pharma companies are still publishing and communicating with

each other, at least in English.

I've picked up work editing in my native language (EN-US) for a pharmaceutical

industry publication. This is a direct client that pays fairly well by

translation standards and, best of all, appreciates my attention to detail and

does not argue about the number of hours I spend on each assignment.

Just something to think about before you invest in a new line of work -- you may

be able to use the skills and equipment you already to offer related linguistic

services and supplement your income that way.
