Guest guest
Hi, Lynda. My name is Bobby. I am a group moderator on here. I was diagnosed with end stage liver disease from alcoholism in November 2006. The following spring I was having shortness of breath and then caught a bad cold, and had a chest Xray, which came back abnormal, and they suggested I see a pulmonologist. I went through the whole battery of pulmonology tests and was confirmed to have a 15 to 20 shunt in my lungs due to hepatopulmonary syndrome. I still have good oxygen sats, but use oxygen at night because my sats drop in to the 80's. My HPS is mild, but I do have a positive diagnosis. If you really want to know all that I have learned, follow this link and download this very informative power point presentation by a very prominent doctor. I'll be glad to answer any questions as well. After the first 8 months, I dropped down to a 10 meld and compensated, which I've been very happy with. My GI doctor said if I maintained I might not need a liver transplant. But then I opened my big mouth and mentioned my nails had started curving downward. Last week after what seemed like a ton of tests, it was confirmed I have hepatopulmonary syndrome. I don't see my GI doctor again till next month, so we will figure out where to go from there. Does anyone else have experience with HPS? ~Lynda
