It's expensive, and didn't seem to do a darned thing for me. I went back to ibuprofen-600mg when needed every 4-6 hours. It works way better than Celebrex and is a heck of a lot cheaper! Guest guest
Yes, this study caught my attention, a. Sounds like SAMe is a reasonable alternative to Vioxx. Have you tried glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate? Those pricey COX-2s are being overprescribed. I hope doctors and patients are paying attention to the developing side-effect profiles of those drugs. I'll stick with my ibuprofen. I'll tell you where to go! Mayo Clinic in Rochester http://www.mayoclinic.org/rochester s Hopkins Medicine http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org Re: [ ] Methionine supplement (SAMe) equivalent tocelecoxib in OA , Of all the supplements I¹ve taken, I¹ve never tried SAMe, but after reading this and many other articles, I am definitely going to try it. I don¹t want to take Vioxx anymore after reading one article to many, about the cardiac implications. a
Guest guest
Yes, it's cheap, equally effective, and we are very familiar with the side effects of ibuprofen, Cary. I can't believe how many people I know who are not in this group who are young, have no big medical problems, no ulcers, no other meds and their physicians prescribe the COX-2s for them for back pain or knee pain. Why? I'll tell you where to go! So they are easy pickin's for the pharm sales rep to tell them what to prescribe. Of course they don't want their patient to get an ulcer! So obviously they need a 2 rather than Motrin! I honestly think most of them don't have the time or inclination to really research into a lot of this stuff, unless it's their specialty. ugh...... Guest guest
How many docs did my nursing teacher make each of us take to task or educate about meds? UG. LOTS I know so far nothing has worked better for me than my generic ibuprofen. Yes, I know the side effects, yes it is VERY affordable- and aside from everything else- it has given me the best relief out of anything so far. - In , Birdijo@a... wrote: > In a message dated 02/05/2004 23:17:57 Central Standard Time, > Matsumura_Clan@m... writes: > > > > Yes, it's cheap, equally effective, and we are very familiar with the > > side effects of ibuprofen, Cary. Guest guest
Aleve gave me a bleeding ulcer, so I'm afraid to take that and similar NSAID's. I take Bextra now. I took Celebrex for a while, but I think Bextra helps me more. Sue On Sunday, May 2, 2004, at 11:43 PM, Birdijo@... wrote: > Me too, ! I was on Celebrex for months. Guest guest
Yes, I take glucosamine & chondroitin. I take Osteo-bioflex brand. Did I tell you that the vet prescribed SAMe to my dog? I¹m done taking COX 2¹s. Celebrex never did anything for me and Vioxx isn¹t any better than ibuprofen. It¹s scary how many people are on these drugs and all the cardiac Implications that are coming out. a > Yes, this study caught my attention, a. Guest guest
Isn't it just Vioxx that is associated with the cardiac implications? I wouldn't want to take that, but I do take Bextra. Glucosamine raises my blood sugar, and since I have diabetes, that's not a good thing. Aleve gave me a bleeding ulcer, so I'm afraid that the regular NSAIDs might, also. What's a poor girl to do? It may be great for you, but it seems some docs are just prescribing it for anyone who needs an antiinflammatory. Cary
