Guest guest
Hi, this is my first post. I was a health freak until 2008, two months after I got married one day I threw up about a pint of blood, saw yellow in front of my eyes and had to be rushed to er from work. I found out I had liver disease, spent 5 days in icu, critical. All those years I got my regular check up at a public hospital, no one could figure out my liver enzymes were out of the ordinary. I never drink, never smoke, never do drugs and they could not figure it out, still can't figure it out. I had irregular periods and I was sent to the endriconologist and he could not figure it out, just gave me birth control pills. They saw my platelets keep going up and down and said it was normal.I have never had a biopsy done because I don't have insurance, I just pay a fee scale according to my income. I can't work right now because I get real tired. After being diagnose with Liver disease, I was given aldactone, furesmide, propanolol, nexium, lactulose and sometimes very powerful antibiotics for the ascities which would get infected. After starting on the pills I had a hernia which got stangulated and had to be rushed to surgery. After a year the hernia is back as big as a baseball and i look like I am 9 months pregnant, in the meantime I have never had another period. I am waithing to go back to surgery again for the hernia and they are saying that I will keep having surgery as long as I have ascities. The sadest part of it was that I found out just 18 months ago that my mother has the same thing and she died on 22nd of December,2011 and I am 45 years old and she was 62 years old. The hospital I attend do not have a Liver specialist and without insurance it is very hard to find someone to work with you. I found someone at Columbia Presbyterian York who would work with me and he just got my medical file. Because my mother had the same thing, they tend to think it is genetic. Please are there anyone on this board who is from new york, I really need someone who is going through the same thing. I don't have alot of friend only 3 and my family is very busy, they only call once in a while to see how i am doing. I also go to edoscopy every 6 weeks which I try and pay for. Next month I wont because money will be tight. So can you guys tell me what you are doing and eating to keep in tip top health.
Guest guest
I am so sorry, Dee!! What a major kick in the backside after being so good, with looking after your body. However, welcome to the group. You will get a lot of questions answered here; but, not from me. I'm learning from this group mainly, how to get through with a very sick liver. Since your mother had the same thing, do they know what to call it yet?? Before, during and for a time after I went through Hep C treatment, I asked my Dr many times when she thought that I would give birth to the elephant. I guess I gave birth in Apr 2010, when I had to have a liver resection. I'm by no means, at a weight that I would like; but, now I really don't care. Are you not able to have the ascities drained?? I don't suffer from it yet; but, I thought most folks have it drained.
