Guest guest
Dorothy I live in the Comox Valley, about an hour and a half from Duncan. I was actually raised mostly in and spent most of my life there. But, came a time that I needed to come home to where I was born and my Mom and Dad. I have never regretted that decision. I very likely would have lost hold on my son when he was a teenager, had I stayed there. Which larger centre are you closer too? 's in Winnipeg. Oh, I did a clinical trial all through 2009 and it was a lot of traveling to Vancouver. Here, we only got a Gastroenterologist at the end of 2008. The internist that was trying his bed to look after us, happily sent most of us with liver problems over to the new Gastro. So, he received my file; but, I never got to meet him until last fall. But, I'm done with all the trips to Vancouver now. I couldn't imagine going every week if it was summer waiting for a ferry!! I'm not built for the intense heat. LOL Gloria ________________________________  Hi Z and Gloria, I live in Regina SK. Where are you, ? Gloria, where on Vanc Island are you? I just spent the whole month of May in Duncan with my daughter. Medical care in Canada is certainly different than in the U.S. Only a little over a million people in Saskatchewan, so we don't have all the specialists that would be in a bigger center. I have been seeing a gastroenterologist here -- he is going to send me to a hepatologist either in Calgary or Winnipeg. My only symptoms are fatigue and minor digestive issues. I am also under the care of a naturopathic doctor (whose services are not covered by Medicare). Best wishes to everyone. Dorothy
Guest guest
Hi Dorothy If you can get into Winnipeg to see Dr. Kaita that would be great. He is my Hepatologist. He is also into research. I live just southwest of Winnipeg in Winkler. I also go to a Naturopathic doctor in Winnipeg but there is one around here which I did not know until after i had started seeing the one in Winnipeg. What kind of treatment is he doing for you? So you have not had a biopsy then? I had an U/S and CT scan and MRI and they didn't show anything. It was the Biopsy that showed my liver state as well as blood work. My platelets were 84 and from the symptons I was having I knew I had cirrhosis before seeing Dr. Kaita for the first time. I do not have alot of symptons except for bruising. I was taking Shark Liver oil for them twice a day and then I was told to go to one a day, and then my platelets dropped from 66-44 so I am taking 3 a day now. I am surprised that Saskatchewan does not have that many people. You are becoming a have province after many years of not having alot of resources. My husband grew up in northern Saskatchewan in Meadow lake area. Then moved to Lloydminster and from there to Alberta. after spending sometime in North Battleford and Saskatoon. He was part of the political scene in the 70's and 80's. Perhaps we will meet sometime if you get in with Dr. Kaita then we could meet in Winnipeg. Guest guest
Not trying to be ugly; but, once someone is in Saskatchewan - what do they do?? The only thing I remember is how boring it was watching out the window of my folks van. We started out from north of Edmonton and I'm not sure we didn't accidentally cross the border in Sask. Apparently, the housing is a whole lot more affordable than it is in the west. Actually, anywhere except Vancouver and the Island would naturally be more affordable. A couple I know, were excited to move to Sask, because of the housing. It appears they didn't even last a year. I swear that if anyone has been raised near the water - inland just doesn't hold an interest. I've always said that I was born with salt water in my veins. Don't mind visiting; but, it's cost be too much over a lifetime, trying to move off this rock. Just didn't stick for very long. So, the last time I moved back and up here in the Valley rather than , I swore I was done running. Of course, there is nothing to run from anyway. It's beautiful here. How I describe it, one could go up and ski in the morning, do a round of golf on numerous courses and finish off by going Salmon fishing. That's why we are lucky enough to have a super Airport. Didn't hurt of course, that the runways where already in place for the Airforce. LOL ________________________________  Hi Dorothy If you can get into Winnipeg to see Dr. Kaita that would be great.
