Guest guest
, there are so many things in life that are trial and error. For sure, everyone does not react the same way with any drug or treatment, and I believe that there are more different results within one patient than between all of them put together. Let me explain... with myself, there are times I experience constipation with what seems like a gallon of *lacto-fun* and extreme gas built up behind it. This is one of my arguments to the court as to why I can't work. I couldn't expect my employer to tolerate the hour and a half bathroom visits that are a normal part of lactulose therapy. Sometimes it does not work at all, and then I am in big big trouble, because if it doesn't work at some point, you become a ticking time bomb, literally, a human volcano, for real. I rode the handicapped bus to see my cousin north of here by 20 miles, and began squirming in my seat 10 miles in to the trip, and by the time I got there, was desperate, and nearly out of brakes! I ran to my cousins door, and to my horror, he wasn't home, having stepped out to take his wife to work. I ran to the nearby woods, and was so so lucky that there were woods nearby for me to find privacy and that it was so early in the morning. I now carry the following items with me in my back pack where ever I go: *One large trash bag, *extra underwear, *baby wipes *camping toilet paper (it comes in a roll with out the cardboard paper tube, so that it is compact, and an entire roll of paper is only an inch or so thick) *disinfectant hand wipes or hand sanitizer. Sorry for the graffic nature of this but it is true and a part of life now. , I am sorry you had such a bad time. I do understand, because 1 out of 5 times I take lactulose I get super nauseated. I NO LONGER EAT ANY FOOD AT ALL ONE HOUR PRIOR TO AND ONE AND A HALF HOURS AFTER TAKING LACTULOSE. This seems to help a lot. I believe that mixing solid food with lactulose can cause gastric dumping syndrome, where food empties from the stomach too soon, and irritates the intestines causing a horrific belly ache and nausea. Guest guest
Bobby - what a colorful picture you painted for us!! LOL For whatever misunderstanding, I thought that Lactalose was for constipation and removing the ammonia. It sure hasn't worked as a laxative for me. So, I'm adding a gentle laxative to help. Shortly after drinking the Lacta, my belly begins to blow a bit more and becomes rock hard. I couldn't force food down at that point. Also, it's really hard to time the Lacta around other medications etc. I'm going to have to have my calendar send me posts on the monitor to remind me when I can take it. However, it has to help get through these short term memory losses. Some days I just want to cry, because what I could do in my sleep before, takes me hours and hours now. I can't retain a thought for hardly a minute if I'm doing anything for my work. Glad that will be over soon. What a life huh?? Who would have thought that any of us would be talking about our bowels with each other. But, it's the only place that I think I'm getting the straight goods. Guest guest
Bobby, loved your colorful picture. Many older people have the same problem as people taking lactolose, so here it is a fairly common topic of conversation. I have been wondering how far you are from the fires. The first house my brother had in Colorado Springs, a few miles east of Garden of the Gods went, and so did the Garden. My brother was in Alaska when I talked to him but said their present house should be safe. I know their old house was not on the edge of town, so can't imagine how many houses have gone. Hope you are safe. Jan > Bobby - what a colorful picture you painted for us!! LOL > > For whatever misunderstanding, I thought that Lactalose was for constipation and removing the ammonia. Guest guest
Dear Jan, sorry to hear about the house. I assume that you lived in it, but you dont own it? Dont answer unless the answer is yes, you still owned it. Sharon and I are far from all of the fires, as we live way east of Denver, out by the old Stapleton international airport property. In fact, we live 500 yards from the north runway. We woke to lots of smoke several days, which was suprising. But, we are safe and putting along. Guest guest
There is something to be said, for sure, that out west here (Canada), our summer didn't get started until 2 days ago. I'm definitely not good in the sun; but, even I was getting irritable about all the rain. Last night I was looking to see if British Columbia had any current fires and thankfully, there were not any that were not containable. One of the problems that I believe causes a lot of the fires, is that a pine beetle had devastated much of the forests. Therefore, those trees are just poles standing up and of course, very flammable. It was just a little while ago that one of our northern towns suffered greatly from fire. It burned at least 1/3 of that town. Here on the island in the west, we don't have and likely won't get that destructible beetle. Still, from one end to the other, that forest has to be watched carefully. It wouldn't take much to burn like the fires in the US, when everything dries up now. Doesn't take long before everyone that is over here to vacation etc. will learn that not even camping fires are allowed. I'm told that the big one that got that northern town was actually an arsonist. Unfortunately, we've had a number of insane people start an arson fire that raged through much of the forests. Bobby, the fire that raged in the interior of our province a few years ago - we could smell that smoke all the way over here. One evening I was coming back into town and I swear that I saw smoke hanging over this valley. Well it was. But, it came from the interior. Horrible!!! ________________________________  Dear Jan, sorry to hear about the house. I assume that you lived in it, but you dont own it? Dont answer unless the answer is yes, you still owned it. Guest guest
We have had some much needed rain this week and it was actually cooler yesterday and low humidity.  That was nice.  Went to Winnipeg and spent part of the day driving with the top down.  ________________________________ To: " livercirrhosissupport " <livercirrhosissupport > Sent: Thursday, July 5, 2012 6:39:11 PM Subject: Re: lactulose experience-beware of human volcano!! Guest guest
Bobby, not sure which house you are referring to. I did not live in the house which burned. I live in an apt in Arizona. But today, the house which I had been told I didn't get because the owner wouldn't accept my final offer went into escrow because they changed their mind last Saturday. So, I will be owning a house, and the house I wanted, just as I had seen it in my mind when thinking of buying one. Will have to do a few things like get a new dishwasherand water softener and maybe a micro, and change the step on the back door, and get used to the very light green color of the carpeting throughout the house. And the drapes are a darker varied color green. Will have to go quick as soon as I can find something else. Hope I can find a buyer for them as they may be practically new. Anyone want a house full of green drapes? At least 7 windows of full drapes, not all exactly the same, and more with just the top part, can't think of the name now. And there is also a shower curtain and liner of the same color. If you like green, I have it. And it can be yours around the 1st of next month. To bring you up to date on me health wise. I am sure I have mentioned before that I have been fighting anemia for a few years without much success, just managed to keep it about the same with accepted treatment. I have lately been having some internal bleeding, had an endo a couple of months ago and they cauterized a bunch of bleeders and it got some better, and then started bleeding again. So, I am going to be having an endo and a colonoscopy again sometime in the near future. Anyway, Thursday I went in for my EPO shot and iron infusion. They took blood to see what my levels were, said nothing about the results, not all in by the time I left so I didn't get a copy. But they promised to send it on right away to the two drs I was seeing after leaving there. Went out to eat and then went to the see the hemotologist who ordered the shots and infusion and he said nothing about it, bawled me out for not taking a medicine he said he gave me, but I don't remember getting it, think they called in to pharmacy and never got, supposed to stop bleeding. Got a copy of the blood results from him. Went to see my kidney dr. who had referred me to the first doctor for a bone marrow test which hasn't gotten done. He saw the hemoglobin, 6.9 and said I was to go to the er immediately, that I could faint, collapse at any minute, (not me, too stubborn) So, I went, showed them the paper and that Dr. Zhao had sent me over, and they took more blood work to check it out and at same time did a type and cross match. Came back at 7.2 was admitted for two units which took until 5:30 Friday morning to finish more blood drawn, 9.6 came back at 8 am. Higher than it has been for years. Then I had to wait until 4 pm for the hospitalist to release me. That part doesn't make sense to me. I was probably charged for another day in the hospital, and they were very busy so probably could have used the room, but he couldn't go out of his routine to look at a sheet of paper and release me. Even after he got to my floor it was a couple of hours before he got to me. So, that is my latest story. The saga will continue I am sure. Jan > Dear Jan, sorry to hear about the house. I assume that you lived in it, but you dont own it? Dont answer unless the answer is yes, you still owned it. > Sharon and I are far from all of the fires, as we live way east of Denver, out by the old Stapleton international airport property. Guest guest
You have a convertible?? I'm definitely jealous. My tongue was hanging out when a Convertible beemer went by and then just a couple of cars later, there goes another one. My car does not have a working AC anymore and the drivers window won't open for lack of a motor. Don't think I'm going to leave here any time soon. ________________________________  We have had some much needed rain this week and it was actually cooler yesterday and low humidity. Guest guest
Thank you for that link. It's funny (sort of) that a couple of days ago, there was no food that seemed appetizing to be. Isn't it bad when even chewing seems like a lot of work? Anyway, I did buy 2 buckets of yogurt already. Glad to know that it could help with any HE. ________________________________ Probiotics Good Second Option for Preventing Recurrence of Hepatic Encephalopathy http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/766986?src=mp & spon=38 Hi, This is the first time I've posted to this group but, I read the daily digest and thought I would share this. Some of you may already be taking probiotics. I would rather take probiotics any day over lactulose. Maybe we have another option now. God Bless, > > Bobby - what a colorful picture you painted for us!! LOL > > > > For whatever misunderstanding, I thought that Lactalose was for constipation and removing the ammonia. > > > > Gloria > > > > > > > > ________________________________ > > > > > > > > > > bob if any one knows about going through hell, its you,  i am so glad > > to have you around for questioning...lol.....us men hate to say > > anything.. for some reason we will not be open like women on this panel > > .  i have one bad day and 2 good days, so i am not completely > > finish.... it just seem that doctors dont understand what.. the shut da > > door we are going through..... so thanks again to you and my > > family......love ya > > > > > > > > , there are so many things in life that are trial and error. Guest guest
Well Jan, Congrats on the house! And hang in there with the fight. You are and have always been an inspiration, and you might be stubborn, but you are brave too! Love, Bobby ________________________________ To: livercirrhosissupport Sent: Monday, July 9, 2012 6:57 PM Subject: Re: lactulose experience-beware of human volcano!! In fact, we live 500 yards from the north runway. We woke to lots of smoke several days, which was suprising. But, we are safe and putting along.
