Hello Jo Ann

The French Wikipedia article on Bolus at

http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolus has a section on etymology:

Le mot bol provient du latin médical bolus, lui-même du grec βόλος

(bôlos), qui signifie littéralement motte de terre.

Perhaps that's the clue.

thanks to Owen for a brilliant but unverifiable suggestion and to (also for

the last question, :-)

i ended up getting the figure and using lump-like. if i get any feedback, i'll

let you know.
