Dear catste888

Hi, my name is Bobby. I am a moderator on this forum. What brought me here is

that my best friend and loved one died from alcoholic cirrhosis in 2006. Soon

after she died, I had a liver biopsy during gallbladder surgery  and was

diagnosed with exactly the same thing. She had a complication from her liver

disease called " hepatic encephalopathy " , and most of us patients on this forum

have the  very same thing to one degree or another. Here is a short list of

some of the symptoms.

Day and night reversal- cannot sleep at night, cannot stay awake during the day.

Irritability, mood swings, either very happy and talkative or very slurred

speech, and dull. A general negative attitude , up to full enraged behavior,

even to the point of violence. Confabulating(making up elaborate false stories,

and seeming to believe them completely, such as having been in the military

service, but in reality the person never was). There can also be Alzheimer's

like dementia symptoms including  severe short term memory loss. There are

blood tests as well as physical exams that can confirm this diagnosis and a

couple of good medicines to combat the condition. For some of us treatment is

the only way our spouses will ever stick around. The abuse can be severe, but

the caregiver should always try to remember that it is folly to argue with a

sick liver. The person who has liver disease does not act mean or agitated on

purpose. good luck. Here is a story

that might be of help. Love, Bobby

Subject: negativity

Hubby is an alcoholic. After he was diagnosed with cirrhosis, he quit drinking.

He is so negative, critical, angry, and irritable, especially to me. I don't

know how to deal with his negative moods. Any suggestions?

Hugs to all ¢¾

Hmmm - it's that severe short term memory loss for me!!  Before I finally got

to my car the other night, to come home after my event,  I couldn't for the

life of me, remember the name of the district I live in.  It was bad!!!  Then

I had to sit quietly for a little while, because I knew that where my head was,

would be dangerous to drive.

Truthfully, once I was back home, I could relax.  Now I don't want to go very

far.
