Guest guest
Mona, I am 46. Around this age, we might be perimenopausal, and our hormones go crazy and the fibroids start growing. That is what happened to me. I never had a D & C before but I did have an endometrial biopsy. That is done in the office. You might feel a little cramping as the doctor try to get a little sample from inside the uterus. Maybe you should get a second opinion. On the Webmd.com website, they gave this suggestion: PATIENT TIP : If your doctor recommends a D & C, ask if a suction endometrial biopsy can be done instead. It carries a lesser risk of complications, but cannot be substituted in all cases Mona and Jo-Ann, have you two checked out uterine artery embolization? There is the embo group at eGroups.com that you might want to check out. There happens to be more members there. Maybe there is someone home this weekend at that group who have some answers or suggestions for you. Sorry, I don't know too much about your symptoms. From the limited reading on the net I get the impression > that this takes quite some time to resolve? Mona, You shouldn't have to give up your uterus just because of fibroids. Even though your doctor wasn't very clear on your options, you do have other options beyond hysterectomy for treating your fibroids and resolving your symptoms. You didn't mention your age but I took from your post that fertility is not an issue. In that case, uterine artery embolization is an option for you (along with myomectomy actually) and will allow for retention of your uterus. All treatment for fibroids is considered " elective " and something you select to do by " choice. " Although symptoms can be pretty bad they are not generally life-threatening and you do have time to research your options. I'm not sure why your physician didn't choose to share with you any other treatment options except hysterectomy but if you can share where you are writing from (state - country), we may be able to help you with additional information and sources of medical assistance. Since you were already on my website, reviewing the all of the information under the links for " Choices " will give you a pretty good idea of treatment options you have for your fibroids. Also, did your physician tell you what kind of fibroids you have? How big they are? Where they are located? You will need this information in order to truly know what your best options are for your situation. I think most people are offline this weekend due to Labor Day but hope that more will be back by Tuesday to also respond. Hang in there. Guest guest
I have only been researching since Thursday (when my gyn. mentioned hysterectomy), and quickly came across UAE, I am interested but need more research before making up my mind. Thanks for responding ! > Mona, > > I am 46. Around this age, we might be perimenopausal, and our > hormones go crazy and the fibroids start growing. Guest guest
I am only 35. The longer I think about it the more I know that there is no way I can have a hysterectomy. Your journal scared the heck out of me, but at the same time, I also was glad that you were so brutally honest. It made me face it-that if I got a hysterectomy it was a major big deal, that if I ignored it it would only get worse (I really related to your story about being able to pick up your son and hold him and hug him-I am just starting to get sensitive like that and noticed that I can't do that to my 4 1/2 year old son anymore), and that if I would just calm down, I could find a way to keep my uterus. I am in the Los Angeles area. I would definitely appreciate any input. I can't imagine going on for months, let alone, years, with these symptoms, especially if they progress. I have to do something. I don't know why my gyn. didn't give me more options, he made it sound like since I wasn't having any more children, then we might as well remove it. It's only because of my fear of surgery that I began researching this. And trust me, I also know that I will need a different gyn-the way he said, " Well, you don't want any more children-we are looking at a hysterectomy. Don't worry, I'll take care of you, I promise " ACK Thanks for replying I have been going through the archives, but there is a lot to go through and I wanted to get some input before my d & c was done. > Mona, > > You shouldn't have to give up your uterus just because of fibroids.
