Guest guest
We here in Vermont are on a statewide system, networked together (by i believe) 56k modems that go into a hub at the headquarters center in Waterbury. We also use Spillman cad here, though a few departments are grumbling about looking at other 'easier to use' programs that will encompass more functions into one. The information sharing aspect of this is invaluable, though some pd's have their information blocked. You can tell someone was involved in something, but have to talk to someone at that particular agency to get the details. As far as I know, all the pd's in this county (except the sheriffs department) are on this sytem, and the majority of the rest of the state is online also. Guest guest
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<snip>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I was just wondering is there any States in the US that utilise a CAD system for the whole State ? Or perhaps there's a system where one CAD system 'talks' to another, linked perhaps ? Palmer <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<snip>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The whole state...no. However, our entire county is all networked together on one CAD system. There are only two police departments, out of eight or nine agencies we dispatch for that are not using the program. Our county uses Spillman software. Contains not only CAD, but all the law reports, citations, warnings, master name files, all involvements, and all jail records. It's a great system and a wonderful asset and resource of information for the little departments dispersed throughout our county. I know NC does. >CA Highway Patrol's can be seen live online at http://cad.chp.ca.gov/ The CHP has 24 Comm Centers and 21 of them use CAD systems - the same BRAND, software, equipment, etc., but they are not all linked to each other. Some of our Comm Centers share the same CAD system - that is, the same server - so those host/remote sites communicate directly with each other. (We share the same information files, can update - or even create - logs for each other, assign units across the connection and even " steal " each other's assigned units and " areas, " electronically. Dynamic updates that affect operations.) The Comm Centers that " belong " to the same host server really appreciate this connectivity - for the most part. <grin> But if we want to give information to a Comm Center operating off a different server, we either call them by phone so they can create their own CAD logs with the information we provide, or we route a log to them in a manner very similar to receiving a DMV return; the information is available to read, but there's no manipulation of the data. The information from that routed log (coming from outside that networked system) has to be laboriously re-created within the " receiving " CAD system. Our network is as follows: HOST: Sacramento remote: Capitol Dispatch Center remote: Truckee remote: Stockton remote: Chico remote: Academy Training Center HOST: Redding remote: Humboldt (Ukiah, Yreka and ville are the hold-outs still using dispatch cards, but they'll be remote sites off this host, soon) HOST: GGCC (Stand-Alone) HOST: Fresno remote: Merced HOST: Bakersfield (Stand-Alone) HOST: Inland remote: Bishop remote: Ben Training Center remote: Barstow remote: Indio HOST: Border (San Diego) remote: El Centro HOST: Orange County (Santa Ana - Stand-Alone) HOST: LACC (Stand-Alone) HOST: San Obispo remote: Monterey HOST: Ventura (Stand-Alone) It was interesting that SLO had been using CAD for nearly five years before Monterey was added as a remote site (in May, 1998). Their daily Incident Log count rarely exceeded 120, and then it was probably a very, very busy day... As soon as we joined them, the combined daily log count immediately jumped over 300, and now the combined daily total occasionally exceeds 600. (The dramatic increase comes from increased activity PLUS the fact that we didn't start creating logs for all the officers' " stops " but just kept that activity as part of Unit History... for the first four or five months. CAD was just sorta too difficult to get all that activity in as separate Incident Logs until we were more comfortable with our CAD skills. Now it seems silly that we didn't create logs for stops right from the get-go... It's just a matter of practice, I guess.) Now, back to the original inquiry: statewide CAD. Hmmmm.. in CA, that would involve a MAJOR coordination effort and agreement about which system to use for at least 375 different PSAPs, because there are a slew of police departments out here! <grin> (And that's just counting Primary PSAPs, which are generally Law Enforcement-based.) It's not yet available on the CHP Traffic Information Page at http://cad.chp.ca.gov/ because they're being allowed some " acclimation " time before their CAD activity is visible to the public.
