I was recently diagnoses with RA and came up with a positive for Lupus. They

are now trying to confim the Lupus with more tests.

LouAnn, in the absence of an overlap syndrome, the coexistence of

systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis in an individual

is rare.

Far more people are told that they have lupus and RA than actually do,

most likely due to misinterpretation of lab test results.

Hello, Renate!

No it is not common for people with RA to develop lupus. At least 30% of

people with RA are ANA positive at some time, but a positive ANA does

not automatically mean lupus. Most people who have a positive ANA do not

have lupus.

with my rheumy yesterday and my last blood test shows possitive for

lupus. I have a rash across my cheeks and nose in which they said could

be lupus or a sun reaction, but do not have rash any where else. No

mouth or nose sores. Anyone have any commments to help?
