Guest guest
Yes, I get soc sec disability and I also filed a claim on my car loan disability and my car was paid off, too. I really had no choice, I was supporting us alone, waiting for my husabands military disability to go thru and his soc sec...we have 3 kids at home and we were BROKE and hungry, the mortgage was in foreclosure. WOrk? I LOVED my work- a nurse doing direct patient care. BUT alas, I soon found myself needing the things I had been providing for others. There was simply no way I could give shots and start IVs and open little tiny blister packs of pills or insert catheters anymore. No way. No way could I move a 300 pound person from a bed to a wheelchair, or walk the nursing home floors 12 hours a day. Gosh, now I use a scooter to go to my kids open house at their school. Most days the kids brush my hair and fasten my clothes. It sure is a good thing there is such a thing as disability coverage. I have no idea where we would be otherwise. - In , " cjkelley112163 " <cjkelley112163@y...> wrote: > I had no idea. But still alot of red tape I imagine. Guest guest
In Illinois you get a state medical card when you get SSI. SSI is sort of a form of social disability welfare for someone who hasn't paid in to the system, such as my son. He gets $564 a month and $58 in food stamps. In some states (I think Wisconsin is one) the state also gives you a supplement with your SSI. I am not sure about regular Social Security Disability. I think they get Medicare but am not sure if it's immediately or two years later. I've heard both but I don't know. My son battled the system for two years trying to get SSI and the state kept refusing him a medical card because he wasn't on disability. I kept appealing it through the state (Department of Human Services) and finally got it for him as there is no set law about that, even though they will tell you there is. Once again I had to get politics on our side, calling our State Representative and State Senator. That always seems to be the key to this. They all have liaison's in their office to assist with this. For Social Security Disability, that is Federal Government so you need your congressman and US Senator to fight for you. For a state medical card and/or food stamps, you need to contact your State Senator and State Representative. You don't have to go to them in person, just call them and they will mail or fax you forms to give them permission to access your files. Guest guest
Michigan has a State Disability system separate and apart from SSI and RSDI which are federal programs- although the determination of one might have some limited effect on the outcome of the other. Despite the fact that SSI/RSDI are federal programs - unfortunately- the speed with which Michigan and some states handle claims - is unconscionable. Michigan has now taken to bringing in ALJ's from Cincinnatti and setting them up in local hotels to catch up on the backlog. Further, SSI/RSDI does not preclude you from state welfare benefits - although amounts approved may determine for example the amount of benefits like food stamps. Guest guest
Medicaid is usally associated with SSI and Medicare and or Medicaid may be associated with RSDI. Some states like Michigan have state medical programs which are usually significantly less comprehensive than Medicaid.
