Hello all,

Sorry I have not bee posting the past week. I had my Lapband weight loss

surgery on Monday May 10th. All went well without a hitch and I came home from

the hospital on Tuesday. The week went well but over the weekend I crashed!!!

I was so sick!!!! Dehydrated and nothing I tried worked to get in enough

fluids. Its as if my stomach was the size of a green pea!! I finally changed

my

boring liquid diet and started making banana shakes with lots of protien

powder and started feeling better on Sunday. I got in a whopping 100 ozs of

liquid

on Sunday and I am back feeling much better today.

So today has been so wonderful!!! This is the beginning of week two post op

for me. I am still a bit sore at one of my laproscopic sites where my port is

located under the skin. Other than that I am pretty much pain free. I have

no stitches...I am all glued together which has been interesting to look at.

I finally got the meds down to a science. I have tons of post op meds. The

one I dislike the most is the Heperin shots I have to take three times a day to

prevent blood clots. For those that missed it I am high risk for blood clots

so I had a greenfield (umbrella filter) placed in my inferior vena cana one

week before surgery.

I went to the movies with my family on Saturday and saw Van Helsing which was

too much sitting still for me at this point. Today a friend did take me out

to TCBY and I had a delicious sugarfree/fat free frozen yogurt treat. Of

course I had a kiddie size cup! LOL and the teenager serving didn't ask any

questions! LOL

I even had 1 oz of chopped chicken with my creamed tomatoe soup lunch which

felt soo good!!!! I have found that the nutritionist was far off in my daily

protein requirements. She gave me 50-60 gms a day and I need more like

80-120 per day plus a minimum of 100 ozs of liquid. My doc only requires 64 ozs

a

day.

Tess, hang in there...real food is coming.

My diet progresses far faster with only two weeks of liquids, followed by 2-3

weeks of soft food as you transition back to regular food. I should

hopefully be going for my first " fill " in the next 4-6 weeks. The cool thing

about

the lapband is its adjustable as nutritional requirements change or my weight

loss platueus. It also has no malabsorption in it either.

Tawny, Don't feel bad you were a wonderful surgery angel. You kept the

group up to date on my progress. I am very glad to have had you as my surgery

angel! thank you.

Toni

PS. My RA seems to be in remission currently as I had to stop all meds the

week of surgery and I can start meds gradually this week. The only meds I have

remained on throughout this all has been Bextra. Which has been a life saver

getting the swelling down as my stomach heals.
