Guest guest
Sorry I was responding to a different member and forgot to attach the original text. I meant that my fibroids would shrink enough that they could do a laser surgery to remove them. I'm still waiting to see my doctor to find out what he wants to do. He was my second opinion on this one and a doctor that I trust completely, as he has treated my mother in law as well. ----Original Message Follows---- From: RobinFrick@... Guest guest
Rechelle: I went thru laparascopy, D & C and hysteroscopy about 9 years ago and was diagnosed with 3 or 4 rather large fibroids also within the walls. I had Lupron shots for 3 months before a myomectomy. Other than the hot flashes I had never felt better. No spotting, no cramping, no mood swings, and no heavy bleeding. It shrunk them enough so that when they were removed the largest was only about the size of a small orange. Good Luck. Jan > Hello, > > I am a new member here. Guest guest
Hi Shelby, My name is Karin, I am an American living in Italy and I am also a new member to this list. I can understand your concern about having a myomectomy. I am now 42 years old. Here is my fibroid history. At age 33 I had my first Myomectomy (done in the USA). My fibroids were very big, one the size of a grape fruite the other as small oranges. They removed all of them. The recovery took 6 weeks of bed rest and I had a large horizontal incision across my belly. Afterwards I felt great and so much stronger. Before that I was bleeding heavy and lost all my strength. In 1996 when was 38 while living in Denmark I had the same operation all over again , but the fibroids were smaller and the main problem was endometriosis. I am real lucky to have had the operation in Denmark because if it had been been done in the USA the insurance company would have demanded I get a hysterectomy. They have socialized medicine in Denmark and have excellent womens hospitals there. I was very impressed, infact the hospital in Denmark was better then the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans where I had my first operation in the USA. I refused to get a hysterectomy unless there was malignancy. Now I am 42 and doing good. I get regular checkups. I live in Italy now and have an excellent woman gynecologist. Here they also have socialized medicine. She has me on a low dose birth control pill. I have been on this for two years. My fibroids have not grown much, they are very small. I get ultrasound scans twice per year. I also only eat organic food. All meat and eggs I eat are hormone free. I have been eating this way here in Europe now for 7 years. My main protein source is fish, chicken and some turkey. I eat tons of whole grain organic rice every day with my vegies, fruits and meat. I do a lot of walking. This has all helped me. One more thing...I believe that stress contributes to fibroids. During the time I had the big fibroid my life was very stressful. I have reduced this stress. The myomectomy should go well for you and after that try to communicate regularily witrh your doctor about diet and any oral contraceptives. The low dose oral contraceptive I am on is called TRIMINULET here in Italy and my fibroids have not grown since I have been on this pill. before being on the pill I had heavy bleeding, frequent migaines, frequent bladder infections, and pelvic pain. Also I noted in Denmark they give women sulfur pills for bladder infections initially and not antibiotics. Usually the sulfur works and if it doesn't they then give the antibiotic. There the doctors were real concerned about antibiotic resistance. I was very satisfied with this treatment. I hope this information has helped. I wish I had known about this site sooner! I have been suffering from lower abdominal pain for about 3 yrs. I went in for my first ultrasound in March of 1997. I have had 6 since then. In Jan of last year, my doctor changed my birth control pill to a lower dosage. I went from Ortho Novum 777 to Alese 28. To make a very long story short... I have not had a period since November 1999. He advised me to keep taking my birth control pills, so I would not get my period and not get the pain (I would only get pain before my period). January 2000-pain June 2000-pain July 2000-another ultrasound which revealed my uterus is "lobulated", and the lobulation is in conjunction with the presence of multiple fibroids and a large pedunculated measuring 8.2 X 7.1 X 7.7. Has anyone here had a myomectomy? I would so appreciate any advise and information you all could send my way. I'm a little scared of surgery-I have fortunately never had to have anything major until now. Thanks so much! Guest guest
Karin- Thanks for the information! It just goes to show you how different each culture and country view medicine! I am hoping to not have to undergo this procedure again, but my doctor has warned me that he cannot guarantee they will not grow back. And he would like to see me pregnant within a year. My husband and I have discussed having kids, but we wanted to wait a little longer, if we had any at all. But when you are given a time frame, it kinda makes you think. One thing at a time, right? I do appreciate the advise and tips you listed, and am looking forward to hearing from you and the other members. Thanks! Shelby > > > Hi!
