Guest guest
I don't recall having the urine test or the 20 vials. Sure they did a lot of blood tests, but 20 vials? Guest guest
Quantell did not have a 24-hour urine as part of his pre-transplant eval, but he has had one previously. It was done to evaluate kidney function and rule out tumors. 20 vials of blood seems a little on the high side, but not unreasonable -- Quantell's regular (now monthly) liver clinic labs involve 5-10. (And we've found that some phelbotomists are better than others at grouping multiple tests to be done from one vial.) Guest guest
That test is probably to check your kidney's creatnine clearance over a 24 hr period....just a way of testing how effective your kidneys are working and what kind of shape they are in RN (wife to Steve....psc/uc since 6/98 and colectomy since 11/98...by the way...when steve got his ostomy done it was nice to say goodbye to uc flareups...even though he had only 2 acute ones they were enough...have many of you had colectomies or ostomies done?) pre-transplant evaluation > I start my evaluation to be listed for a liver transplant tomorrow. Guest guest
I had 18 drawn.....I'm sure if they took number 19 it would show anemia! Guest guest
I lied to all of you about how many vials of blood they would draw (20) - they took 26!?!? I was able to get up without fainting even though I hadn't had breakfast. It really wasn't so bad - the tech used a butterfly since she was taking so much. I usually have to request it since I have small, rolling veins. The lady doing the abdominal sonogram said I had very good blood vessels around my liver and said the blood was flowing the right way. Whatever..... as long as it is good news! We go back tomorrow for a full day. My lung capacity is not very big so I will probably " flunk " the pulmonary function test. lol I'll do ok on the EKG, echocardiogram and the osteoporosis clinic check. Hope you have a great day. I think that # of tubes of blood can sometimes have to do with which tests they can do in house and which they have to send out etc. My wife is an MT at a doctors office, and they do a lot of the tests there at their own lab, but some of the more specialized ones have to be sent out, which can necessitate extra tubes of blood. athan
Guest guest
Barby, Phil got listed with normal liver functions because he had 4 infections in 3 months last year. Now he's had another. They will not do an ERCP unless there is no other recourse to stop an infection. They do not believe in doing them everytime you turn around. If stenting will help that is another story but Phil's got way too many constrictions for stenting to do any good and right now he responds well to the antibiotic. I suppose there will come a point when it won't. Glad your tests are coming out well. Phil's did too he just has bad pipes. Peg
Guest guest
I'm confused.....should we be happy about normal or lowering LFT's or upset? Mike just had bloodwork done and his Alk Phos and Gamma GT continue to decline, AST and ALT are normal range, bilirubin is just a hair above normal, white blood cells and platelets are climbing....should we be happy or apprehensive?
