I declare it required reading!

I wish all doctors would understand this part:

" Listening to the patient's story is a key component of evaluating a

patient with chronic pain. If the clinician fails to listen to how the

pain interferes with the patient's day-to-day function, treatment is

likely to be ineffective. Moreover, the patient is likely to seek other

care, including over-the-counter medications ( such as traditional

analgesics to herbal supplements). Some 175 million people in the United

States take such drugs daily and, importantly, they often don't think to

tell their doctors because of the mistaken belief that these medications

are benign.[22] Unfortunately, this practice increases the risk of drug

interactions. "
