Guest guest
I was diagnosed with fibroids and possible adenomyosis in August 1999. For the past few months, I've been almost normal, I think because I was exercising nearly every day. Then I stopped and my periods started getting worse again. On Friday I was taken to the emergency room because I was bleeding so heavily that I went into convulsions and lost consciousness. They did a lot of tests and kept me there for while. They found an unidentified growth--not a fibroid tumor--coming out of my cervix. They told me to see my doctor first thing on Monday. First thing on Monday I found out my doctor is no longer at the clinic, so I went to the emergency doctor at the clinic. For insurance purposes, I need a referral from them first. Nobody could find that unidentified growth today--it's either gone back in or come out, I guess. The emergency doctor consulted with an ob-gyn, who can't see me until Friday, by phone. They want me to start taking Lo/Ovral (.3 mg norgestrel and 30 mcg ethinyl estradiol) to stop the bleeding. The dosage is large--four pills a day for four days, three pills a day for three days, and so on for ten days. This is to stop the bleeding. They know the fake estrogen is bad for the fibroids, but say it's probably okay for such a short time. I am also concerned about the fake progesterone, since I've already experienced severe pain and bleeding taking Micronor. I explained that I may also have adenomyosis, for which you should probably not take fake progsterone, but they seemed a little skeptical. I'm really nervous about this pill, and haven't yet started taking it. I've been still bleeding heavily, in some pain, but not too much, and pretty weak and tired. I'm slightly anemic, they found. Also, I passed a strange thing on Friday evening--about 2 inches long and 1/4 inch in diameter, and white. It looked intact and solid but disintegrated which I touched it. I felt no pain at all. Before I passed out I passed about six very large clots, and was confused because I had no pain then either. Usually passing the clots is painful. Sorry for the long post--I'm anxious and tired and feel like I can't believe anyone anymore. Michele
Guest guest
Wow! Michele, I'm so sorry to hear about your trip to the ER, etc.. If you do indeed have adeno along with your fibroids a UAE might be worth a shot before resorting to other drastic measures.. Hummmmmm, don't know how much time the pill will buy you either, the pill is usually like a double headed sword when fibroids are present they can sometimes control heavy bleeding however, the estrogen can be harmful as well & cause growth so be careful.. I also have adeno & one fibroid & I was advised to try the mini pill (provera 10 mg twice a day) to help with my horrible periods.. I haven't filled the prescription yet as I'm leary about the side effects that synthetic progesterone can cause (Any thoughts/advise on provera would be appreciated from th e group )I do however use progesterone cream (pro-gest) & take vitex & red clover(both herbs are supposed to help the body produce more progesterone & help with the oesterone imbalance?) Some months my periods are ok (heavy but deal able) however, last month was horrible, clotty, just plain scary & I thought i was going for a trip to the ER myself (like i have nothing else to do ) I looked into UAE for my problems & the IR I saw (Dr Forcade over in Portchester, NY) seems to think that I'll do very well with a embo.... He's already done over 20 procedures on women with adeno & fibroid combo's & all have been successful!! I even contacted 4 by phone already & they all said the procedure saved their lives... Three out of the four women did go into menopause following the procedure , they are all in their early 50's & were probably going to start the change anyway?? I'm still batting this around & doing research, I continue to hold my breath every month starting when my period begins, exhaling when it's over (I just never know what is going to happen to me & it's scary) If you would like more info about my consultation with Dr. Forcade or about anything else please contact me through the group or private.. Good luck to you & best wishes Michele.
