Guest guest
Cindi, Hi, have you checked with your insurance? I got a wheelchair under my medical insurance. There is either an alottment of money per year for durable medical supplies, or at least they pay 50%? My Dr. wrote an Rx for 3 month rental (new) and then will write a permanent Rx for the wheelchair. Hope this helps! Guest guest
Hello: Just a note, do you have Medicare? If you do, they will pay for wheelchairs or scooters. Call them up and talk to them. Sincerely, Colletti Anjillah@...
Guest guest
Cindi, I don't have knowledge in this area, but I hope you saw Carol's message. I know there are others in our group who can give you advice about a wheelchair. I'll see what I can find out in cyberspace. I'll tell you where to go! Guest guest
Hi , I'm still getting use to this website, so I'm not sure if this was to me or not, but in case it was, I don't have Medicare as of yet. But I suspect it may possibly come down to that someday, but hopefully not in the near future! I will bear in mind what you've said though, and thank you. Guest guest
Cindi, Call your doctor's office. If your doctor writes a prescription for it, insurance will pay if you have DME coverage. Mine paid 100% for a rental and then 100% to purchase a motorized one when I needed it. But every policy is different as to how much they will pay. There will be someone at the doctor's office who takes care of getting the wheelchair for you. They are experienced in dealing with insurance companies as well as the suppliers. Insurance will dictate where you get it if they pay. Bottom line..........I suggest you first look at your insurance policy to see if you have DME (Durable Medical Equipment) coverage. If you do, then call your doctor's office. His/her nurse is a good person to talk to. If they aren't the one who takes care of procuring DME in that office they will know who you need to talk to. Also, the nurse can help in getting the prescription written.
