Hello,

I was reviewing ACOG's 48th Annual Clinical Meeting

(http://www.acog.org/acm2000/) to be held

in May in San Francisco, CA.

I reviewed the program and subject index and could not locate

any information about a medical procedure, uterine artery embolization (UAE).

UAE is being performed globally and in the U.S. for symptomatic

benign uterine fibroids. I recently read about the procedure in the

Miami Herald, as well as Women's magazines over the last 2 years,

in the United States. Is it true that over 4,000 procedures have

already been performed in the US/over 6,000 globally?

Additionally, television programs are

discussing the procedure, including NBC Nightly news.

I am sure that, given the frequency of symptomatic

benign uterine fibroids, thousands of women are presenting with

symptomatic benign uterine fibroids have approached their physicians

with questions and referrals for this treatment option.

Could you point out my error, and direct me to the seminar, luncheon

meeting, CME course that will feature UAE? I am sure attending

journalists will be interested in doing feature stories of local Gynecologists

referring their patients for benign symptomatic uterine fibroids for uterine

artery embolization.

The Current Issue update looked interesting: " The Internet and

Medicine-Harnessing the Power "
