I had this 'thingy' on the back of my neck, and was convinced it was

swelling from the Arthritis in my neck. It wasn't until, I saw the

pictures of what predisone use could do to a person, I realised it

looked exactly like a buffalo hump.

Thankfully, because I have lost nearly 5 stone now, it is slowly

disappearing, so hopefully it might disappear completely.

Hi Cary - 14lbs is a stone, here in the UK, so I have lost 70lbs.

Should be more hopefully, will know when I see the Consultant early

next month.

Do you measure in lbs only?

Well congrats, Carole! That must have been hard work. We usually measure in

pounds, although at the hospital we also convert weights to kilograms because

a lot of meds are dosed according to so many milligrams per kilogram of

weight. Cary

Many thanks Cary, I started dieting in early November 2003, and it

was really hard in the beginning:) Now I know in future I will use

only lbs, in postings.

As far as dieting, I just suppose I was in the right frame of mind,

to suceed. I was really fed up with some of the medical personnel,

seeing just a 'fat' person in front of them, not ME as the person!!

Before my diagnosis, some of which are recent, everything seemed to

be put down to my obesity. One day I saw a report on myself on the

doctors computer, and I was correct in my assumption. All over the

screen was written Obesity, Obesity, Obesity! e.g. any walking

problems answer Obesity, not arthritis or Fybromyalgia! Wouldn't

have been so bad, if it had been written only once.

Still in a way it was like a wake up call, from then on I was

determined to prove them wrong, and decided to lose weight, and I am

more proactive in asking for xrays and tests. Also I have found a

really lovely lady doctor, who is on my side, and sees the whole

me. Now my aim is to lose another 42 pound, (and I should be down

to my 'correct' weight} then I am going to make an appointment with

the other lady doctor, who wrote Obesity all over the screen, and

she will have to take me seriously ::)))

My mechanical back problems started when I was only 19, and all I

was doing was cleaning the bath. Just couldn't straighten up for at

least 10 minutes. Then over the years, I would be sitting on the

floor playing with the kids, and couldn't stand up, had to crawl on

all fours, to a chair and use the chair to get up. Things just

progressed slowly from there over the years. In those days I was

pretty slim, and I knew their were underlying problems, not my gain

in weight:)

All the best to you - Carole

Please use pounds, stones, whatever you like! It's so interesting to hear

how people from places outside the US talk-I love it! Cary
