Guest guest
I have to tell you something that happened to a friend of mine with Vioxx. She is overweight but in great shape-just ran her second marathon in less than a year. She is I think 52 years old. Anyways, she has a rotator cuff that needs surgery, but she was waiting till she ran this second marathon. It really hurt, so her Dr. prescribed Vioxx. She woke up swollen one morning, like all over edema, and thought maybe it was something salty she ate or whatever, and went running anyways. This went on for a couple of days. Her heart rate was high and she just felt crummy. So she went to the doc, her fingers were like sausages and she was exhausted! Doc said she had a dangerous amount of edema (my friend is a master's prepared RN, by the way) and is lucky she didn't have a heart attack or end up in the hospital! All from Vioxx. She stopped taking it and was better within days. So if you are on one of these meds and start to puff up, call your doc! Cary
Guest guest
Cary, I'm glad that she went to the doctor, that could have been fatal, Tawny > I have to tell you something that happened to a friend of mine with Vioxx. > She is overweight but in great shape-just ran her second marathon in less than > a year. Guest guest
Cary, that's a excellent cautionary tale. I believe that what happened to your friend happens with more frequency than physicians and patients realize - and not just with Vioxx. This paragraph from the editorial on hypertension I sent yesterday is alarming: " In a study of 463 people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), BP was not always measured in the charts of patients. Nineteen percent had no BP recorded, 37% of those with readings had HTN, and the BP was uncontrolled (worse than 140/90) in 77%2. Nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAID) are most apt to increase systolic BP. It appears that rheumatologists are not doing a good job with respect to adequate recognition and treatment of HTN. " I'll tell you where to go! Mayo Clinic in Rochester http://www.mayoclinic.org/rochester s Hopkins Medicine http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org Re: [ ] Vioxx increases risk of edema, loss of hypertension control,... > I have to tell you something that happened to a friend of mine with Vioxx. > She is overweight but in great shape-just ran her second marathon in less than > a year. There is no excuse for not having your vitals checked when you go to the doctor! Jeeezzzz....
Guest guest
My last 2 rheumatologists did NOT take my vitals. That is a big part of why I left them. One of them took my vitals on the first visit, but no subsequent visits. That is why no one but ME noticed my increase in BP after taking Vioxx. a > In a message dated 27/06/2004 09:07:10 Central Standard Time, > Matsumura_Clan@... writes: > > >> > BP was not >> > always measured in the charts of patients.
