Guest guest
Thanks for the articles, . I had seen the first one but not the second one. I'm afraid that dilation is something that I'll have to have done periodically. Since it is so painful, it had to get really bad before I went to have it done. It hurt a lot worse this time than last time, so I'm hoping it will last longer. It doesn't help that the doctor is a babe, LOL. Guest guest
Cary, if they used any, of course it wasn't up in the urethra where the pain was. I guess they wouldn't have been able to get it up there before the dilation. Do you know if this is done more under general anesthesia or under local anesthesia? My sister's doctor said he uses general anesthesia because it hurts too much otherwise. My doctor just goes ahead like it's nothing and then apologizes, saying " I didn't mean to hurt you. I know others who will use the lidocaine jelly, a little valium or ativan, or whatever. I know if either of these doctors had to go through it themselves, there would be sedation and pain meds. So I think it is doctor related. They get so used to shoving things up there, they forget there is a person attached to that urethra! I would let them know when I called for the next appt that I needed some kind of pain control or sedation or I'd have to go elsewhere. Guest guest
And can you imagine dilating your own urethra? My doctor said he teaches some of his patients to do it themselves. When I said that I didn't think I could, he said it'd be cheaper. I don't know how I'd even see where to stick something, lol. Maybe he expects me to hold a mirror at the same time that I'm dilating my urethra, you reckon? Anyway, I'm just glad it's over for this time. Guest guest
Sounds like medieval torture. I can't believe they are doing these procedures without any regard to pain. I'll tell you where to go! Mayo Clinic in Rochester http://www.mayoclinic.org/rochester s Hopkins Medicine http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org Re: [ ] Information on urethral stricture > In a message dated 03/07/2004 19:01:22 Central Standard Time, > marysue@... writes: > > > > My doctor just goes ahead like it's nothing and then > > apologizes, saying " I didn't mean to hurt you.
