Guest guest
Going further down this rathole, I had problems with side effects from various hrt meds, until I went on estrace and prometrium, which for me have no detectable side effects at all. Premarin is a problem from an animal welfare point of view, as it is made from the urine of pregnant mares (pre-mar-in) who are kept confined in stalls and constantly pregnant. The foals are usually sold for slaughter.
Guest guest
Hi Breta & Trudy: I was on premarin/prempro for years until they found irregularties in my boobs - at which time I was switched to Evista. So I have been on Evista now for a few years. The Doctor's notes on the bottom of my Bone Density Test states, " Ellen Gilmartin is one of the 25% who has not responded to Evista. " . I am still on Evista. As previously posted, I take 1500 calcium; 400 D and *once a week* Fosomax - along with all that heart stuff. I just counted the pills I gobble up every day - *eleven* (11) - WOW! Ellen *The Pill Pusher* ******************** >(clip)At 49 I have completed hysterectomy (sp)and was > put on Premarin (clip) My sister who has been on premarin since (39) recently had a bone density has osteoporosis really bad; she is on actonel. Guest guest
Is she menopausal or if so how many years out? The first 5 years of menopause are very difficult to stop the decrease in bone loss just through diet and supplements. If she started menopause very recently and already has a dx of osteoporosis (not osteopenia) she really needs to talk to the MD. Great idea checking the blood Vit D status. Otherwise they are just guessing her needs. > Hi, all, > > I'm new to this list so apologize if this has been discussed in depth > already. > > My 54-year-old friend just called to tell me she was diagnosed with > osteoporosis and wanted to know if there was something she needed to > be eating. Guest guest
I also want to interject that weight bearing exercise is a key factor in retaining bone. If she chooses to supplement, i hope she makes sure she is getting a high quality one that can be absorbed- with the cofactors needed to lay down bone matrix.....
