Diabetes in the family

Yes, Sue, I'm being vigilant about the diabetes. My mother has it and

her father had it, too. I suspect her brother has it, but doesn't want

to believe it. My mother is doing well and able to control her diabetes

with diet and exercise alone.

Funny you should mention it - I haven't tried her meter, but I was

thinking of buying my own for occasional testing. So far, my blood tests

have always shown low normals, but I know the genetic risk is a strong

one.

What I noticed about my grandfather, mother, uncle, and my brother is

that they always were very thirsty (years before my grandfather's and

mother's diagnoses) and could consume great volumes of liquid. My

grandfather and mother both had unintentional and dramatic weight loss

just prior to their diagnoses. I've asked my brother to watch out.

I'll tell you where to go!
