Guest guest
Sue, I thought so too. No, some did not have nurses, they only had receptionists that put you in a room. I used to get routine urine tests done, but can¹t even remember the last time I had one. It has to be 3-4 years. Even my new doc, who is at the Cleveland Clinic, didn¹t order a urinalysis. I often wonder if any of these meds affect my kidneys. a > I thought that taking vitals was a necessary part of any kind of doctor > visit, a. Did your rheumatologists not have nurses? Guest guest
I thought that taking vitals was a necessary part of any kind of doctor visit, a. Did your rheumatologists not have nurses? I can't imagine not having my blood pressure measured at each doctor visit. On the other hand, tomorrow I'm going to a urologist, and they routinely ask for a urine sample every time, when I don't think it's always necessary. Guest guest
Sue, I had major stomach surgery. Went back after the operation (2 weeks later) to have six drains removed, and no one took my vitals. That night I passed out from my blood pressure bottoming out. I was told by the doctor to take pain medicine and I did and passed out on the floor. Trust me not all doctor take vitals. They should but they don't. In my case it would have been a big benefit if they did. The next time I went back I made sure they took the vitals. My primary was very upset that this had happened. Even he couldn't believe the lack of care. What is worse is this surgeon allowed his staff not neglect this part of health care. He is retired now thank goodness. Guest guest
That must have been scary, Lynn. I guess I'm just lucky that all of my doctors have their nurses take the vitals. I guess I just take it for granted. Sorry you got such bad care at a time when you needed the best. Sue On Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at 06:10 PM, Ruf-Caimi wrote: > Sue, > I had major stomach surgery. Guest guest
Hi a. I don't know any doctor that doesn't have some one do vitals. That is really bizarre. The urine test though, is another matter. Used to be it was ordered all the time. Now insurance and medicare won't always pay for them, unless a person has symptoms of a urinary tract infection. I would think medication managment would be a could reason to test, but actually, they can find more about kidney function from the creatinine and BUN tests that are run on the blood. Now that I'm on methotrexate, the rheumy has me take blood tests every month. AST, and ALT for liver function, and creatinine for kidney function. Noreen Re: [ ] Vitals Sue, I thought so too. Guest guest
Well, a, they must have been trying to cut costs and maximize their profit, LOL. Since I have diabetes, my endo orders a urinalysis yearly. Some of the blood work he orders also helps him to keep a check on my kidneys. So far, they've been fine. But I am sure I will get a urinalysis tomorrow when I go to the urologist. Sue On Wednesday, December 31, 1969, at 10:21 PM, a wrote: > Sue, > I thought so too. Guest guest
Hi Sue, Well it is behind me now. I learned a good lesson. I make sure they take the vitals. If I hadden been so sick at the time, I might have ask what was going on. I hated when I had to go to that hospital. When I was there I just wanted out, even if it was just the doctors office. I am partly to blame for what happen. I have learned with this group to be a little more aggressive but in a good way. Hope you are well. Lynn Sue wrote: > That must have been scary, Lynn.
