Guest guest
Hi Toni I don't think these are widely used here in the UK yet. Also as we have our National Health Service here which is constrained by budgets it is unlikely that more expensive medicines will be so widely used, the cheaper treatments will always be tried first. My rheumatologist said that Methotrexate is still considered to be one of the best medicines for RA but after 3 attempts of taking it and having such awful side effects I had to admit defeat. Judith [ ] Re: Intro Judith, Biologic DMARDs are the newiest treatments for RA. They are Enbrel, Humira, Remicaide and Kinert. All are injectables. The Remicaide you get IV infusions every 6-8 weeks. I personally use enbrel which I inject twice weekly. I was told that Paquenil is the mildiest of all the DMARDS. This is where most docs in this area start patients on. Then they go on to Arava or Methotrexate. I personally was on Methotrexate for about a year. It was horrible!!!! Lots of side effects to include drug induced pneumonitis which can be fatal if left unchecked. Solution is stop the drug immediately. I started on pills and then went to injections. I really perferred the injections but my body just did not tolerate Methotrexate well. I got the following side effects: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, headaches, mouth sores, eye sores and throat sores. Good luck, toni
