Guest guest
Thanks so much for the info. The doctor gave a us pills also, but each pill is 20mg. He told us to give her 2 pills as soon as we are sure it's and not a cold or something. I'm hoping the higher dose will knock it out in one try and not come back until the " regular " time. Although I'm not sure what that is anymore. Maddie had her tonsils removed in Aug. and only had one fever in Oct. since then. So if anything, I'm hoping they are every other month now. But I guess we'll have to wait and see if a pattern " after the tonsils " establishes. I am nervous about how she will take the medicine. I plan on trying chocolate pudding. Did you crush the pills? Thanks for the info. Guest guest
Thank you for your response, . Do you know what dose you are giving Ella? Ellie's is 2mg per kilo. Thanks! Tracie " (Berggren) Alsleben " <annaalsl@...> wrote: Hi Tracie, We've been " experimenting " with prenisone dosages. My daughter Ella is 20 months old and we've only used prednisone the last two months with her fevers. The first month (September) we have her three doses, each 12 hours apart. In October, I tried the one dose initially, and it worked great, but the fever came back about 24 hours later. So we decided to try the three consecutive doses again at that point, and the fever went away completely. With her next fever, we're going to try giving her two consecutive doses, given 12 hours apart to see if that's enough to kick the fever until the next episode. I think (I'm not sure) that some kids who take just one dose where it's successful at keeping the fever away are taking a more concentrated dose. Our pediatrician says that Ella's dosage is a lower dosage that she had initially had recommended that she take twice a day for five days. We've elected to experiment on our own to find out the minimum dosage that's effective for her. So far we've learned that one dose isn't enough at the current concentration, but three seems to work well. Hopefully two doses will be just as effective...I imagine we'll find out in a couple of weeks. I think that sometimes it finding out what works best for your child. Keep us posted on how the tonsilectomy goes for Ellie. mom to Ella, 20 mos (?) Annika, 4 Evan, 6 > > Hi! My name is Tracie and I am the mother of Ellie who is almost 4. Her symptoms include high fever, headache, joint pain, cancer sores, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, vomiting, fatigue and loss of appetitite. Her sed rate is also very high during outbreaks (ie 100). Her episodes are on the long side and last from 7-10 days. > > Our pediatrician first diagnosed Ellie last month and we saw an infectious disease specialist who confirmed the diagnosis. As they predicted, she was afebrile and headache free within two hours. It was amazing how her energy came back so quickly. Two days later, symptoms returned and we repeated the dose. Again, the symptoms returned in two days (yesterday) and we administered a third dose. They are recommending two more doses - one today and one tomorrow. > > Have any of you needed a third dose for your children? I am reluctant to give so much, but her suffering is so acute and prednizone is so effective at relieving it (at least temporarilly). Guest guest
Tracie, I checked the prednisone bottle and it says 5ml/5kg. She weighs between 23 and 24 pounds. We've been giving her 1 tsp at the onset of the fever and then two more doses spaced 12 hours apart. mom to Ella, 20 mos (?) Annika, 4 Evan, 6 > > > > Hi!
