PT update and jaw pain

Thought I would give my update on PT. It is coming along fine. Some days I

want to strangle my PT, but all in all it has been very beneficial. The

only reason I wanted to strangle her was because I was coming out of a

nasty flare for one of my appointments and I guess she thought I was done

with the nasty flare..... OUCH!! I can move my neck a lot more now. That

is the reason for going and it has helped so I am very upbeat about that. I

am also learning how and which muscles react in that area which is helping

me nip any problems in the bud so to speak. The neck will never be perfect,

that I know, but knowing how to take care of the muscles in that area will

help with the flare ups.

One silly thing....I have been having my appointments at 10 or 10:30 am. Ok

fine, but I warned them if they kept switching times on me I was going to

screw it up.....sure enough, my last appointment I had to cancel about 2

minutes before because it was a 10 o'clock and I thought it was for

10:30...... This mistake is done even when I put it on my calendar! LOL

The receptionist wanted to know when I would get there, I told her

10:25.....she said, that wouldn't work. NO kidding! LOL

I did ask my PT for a recommendation for a good Rheumy... she said she

didn't know any in this area. Ok back to square one on that. My stylist

did mention a Dr. that is really good so I am going to check him out.

Appointments with him are hard to come by, but will give it a shot anyway.

Can't hurt to try, right?

Now to the jaw pain. A few months back this subject was brought up and I

didn't add my 2 cents. Figured it had been said and what I could say about

it couldn't help. I have had this problem for several years now. As of

about 2 years ago it had gotten sooo bad that I couldn't chew gum any more

and some days it was just total hell just to chew my food. Bad enough a

person needs to eat, but having to give up chewing gum was down right

depressing. Good news....... the PT for the neck seems to be helping with

the jaw! I realized this earlier in the week when we stop at this little

shop and got a pastromi grinder to bring home. It was like chewing leather.

I thought it was me but DH even complained about it. I am thinking oh boy

here comes super pain! I only ate part of it because it was so tough. DH

wouldn't even finish it and he is a " garbage gut " !! My skinny ol man eats

anything and everything! Don't ya just hate him!!? His cholesterol and

thyroid are normal, just wants to make ya want to hate him more!! LOL I

mention thyroid because his whole family is on thyroid meds, so he has to

have his checked often. Getting off the subject here......... anyway, no

pain from eating that grinder! Sure a little sore but that is because my

jaw just isn't use to chewing anything like that. But no pain. Later I

realized the neck muscles have been doing pretty good and figure these neck

muscle must be playing a huge part with the jaw. You know I am going out

this weekend and buying a pack of gum!! LOL Hey do they still carry

Bazooka Bubble gum? The old fashion kind, not the stuff with all the sweet

gunk in it......Yes, it has been a long time. I know I won't be able to go

crazy with it, but to have a piece of gum now and again would truly be a

pleasure.

So that is my revelation on the hows and whys of my jaw pain. Others who

have this problem may want to ask their drs. about it, especially if you

have neck problems.

, it's great that your physical therapist is helping you make

noticeable progress!

Hope you will try to see that other physician. Limited availability is

generally a good sign. Ask to be placed on their cancellation list.

With your thoughts about your jaw and neck, you've prompted me to start

singing my song again (which will probably irritate Cary and Rick if

they see this): " ... the jaw bone's connected to the neck bone .... "

I'll tell you where to go!
