Guest guest
MY Internist today told me that they now have documented cases of the adverse reaction AKATHESIA to MTX..It is not common but it is happening. Leave it to me to end up in critical care a few yrs ago from that exact effect, and unfortunately now have it for life. I must watch EVERY MEDICATION SUGGESTED NOW...AND HOW THESE RHEUMATOLOGISTS SAID MTX DID NOT CAUSE AKATHESIA.HMMMMMMMMMM THEREFORE EVERYONE TAKING MTX SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS AS I HAD TAKEN MTX MANY TIMES AND ONE TIME FOR A PERIOD OF AN ENTIRE YEAR WITH HAIR THINNING AS MY ONLY SIDE EFFECT. PLEASE ALL BE CAREFUL WITH THESE " SAFE " MEDICATIONS... LOVE JOANNE
Guest guest
Joanne, exactly which physicians or institutions have documented the cases of MTX associated with akathisia? I would like to see those references, if possible. Or has your internist himself observed it? Were they low-dose MTX cases? One of the big questions I have about this assertion is that MTX is routinely taken in conjunction with so many other meds that have a known association with akathisia that it would be hard to sort out exactly what is happening. I would also like to know what they think the mechanism responsible is. I'll tell you where to go! Mayo Clinic in Rochester http://www.mayoclinic.org/rochester s Hopkins Medicine http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org Re: [ ] .... & ALL ON MTX..PLEASE READ > > MY Internist today told me that they now have documented cases of the adverse reaction AKATHESIA to MTX..It is not common but it is happening. > > Leave it to me to end up in critical care a few yrs ago from that exact effect, and unfortunately now have it for life. Guest guest
This is very interesting to me because I've had a mild version of this condition--without meds--my whole life. I'm the one in every meeting who's swinging my foot, rocking my chair, whatever. If the MTX makes it worse, I may have to start tying myself down! > Joanne, exactly which physicians or institutions have documented the > cases of MTX associated with akathisia? Guest guest
You are burning calories with this movement, though, which is a good thing. I've read that thin people perform actions such as this more than overweight people. I don't know if it's true or not. Years ago I had a student who would move his leg very fast, continually. It would just about shake the whole room.
