Guest guest
I managed to have the pelvic MRI today. The report won't be ready till 48 hrs...but a preliminary report will be available tmw. I feel nervous, scared and excited. I sure hope the " ovarian mass " turns out to be something benign, a cyst or fibroid... and I'm excited because I have decided that what I want to do if i get a green light, is to lose weight - 30 lbs - over the next three months....AT THE SAME TIME I want to shrink these suckers either with Lupron or shark cartilidge or UAE. Then if I still need to have surgery I can do it and have a much easier time, smaller incision, etc. My mother is getting remarried January 29 and I want to go home for the wedding. So, with 30 lbs off and three months of Lupron I can go home and then have surgery In February. I really like this plan. I had not wanted to consider Lupron but if it is either that or get disfigured with a huge vertical incision which cuts thru my muscles and have a risky bloody surgery....Lupron is starting to sound pretty good. I just wish I could afford the shark cartilidge...I spoke to a Gyn who was in the book " Sharks Don't Get Cancer " and he said he has seen this shrink fibroids significantly but they will grow back quickly once you stop taking it. I have arthritis, and taking Shark Cartilidge would possibly help this too....but I'd need about $1,000 for the Shark Cartilidge...you have to take 2 grams a day for every lbs you weigh and I am 205 right now. It is incredibly expensive. Maybe I can borrow the money or raise it somehow. Or maybe my insurance company would pay for it - it would be way cheaper than Lupron. I'll post the results of the MRI when I get them. Jeannie
Guest guest
Jeannie, Hope the results of your MRI are good. I know how you feel. I just had surgery for an ovarian mass that turned out to be a large cyst caused by endometriosis. My surgery was done abdominally because of the size of the cyst and the fact that the doctor (a gyn/oncologist) couldn't totally rule out the possibilty of cancer. This was the first time I had ever had surgery and I was scared, but it wasn't as bad as I feared. I had the surgery Friday, was home Sunday morning and I feel fine, except for being a little sore. Be sure you have a doctor who's willing to work with you. The first doctor I saw (a regular gyn) terrified me with the possibility of ovarian cancer, then scheduled me for a total hysterectomy before she even gave me the results of the CA-125. She wanted to take everything out, regardless of what they found. Thanks to what I'd learned from this list, I got a second opinion from the gyn/oncologist who said he would only remove what was necessary. They did remove the left ovary but that was it. They also stitched the incision to make the scar as small as possible and I really don't think it's going to be very noticable. I was surprised that it was endometriosis because I hadn't really noticed any of the symptoms (other than heavy periods), but very relieved that it wasn't cancer. I hope you can avoid the surgery altogether, but if you have to have it, having a doctor who's willing to listen to you can make a huge difference. Let me know how things go.
