Guest guest
Abby, Prednisone is more likely to cause you to lose sleep and feel euphoric, although I've heard of people who don't have that reaction. Some people get irritable and angry on it. Some people say it mkes them hungry. I eat less when I'm on it. But it's not usual for it to cause depression or tiredness. I'm not very familiar with sulfaslazine, but I would find that the more likely one to cause feeling tired. Is there anything going on in your life that is causing you a lot of stress? It's possible that the way you're feeling may not have anything to do with the meds. Dix [ ] Sulfasalazine and depression? Hi all.... I'm taking Sulfasalazine and 5 mg Prednisone every day. I've noticed over the last several days that I feel like Linus with the black cloud over my head. (I already take Wellbutrin and have for a long time..... ). I really do NOT like this feeling. It feels so different. I feel sluggish and have noticed that I am feeling down and am blaming my relationship and now my work whereas I wasn't feeling bad about them before. It dawned on me... things were ok before I started these meds. My doctor said these meds can be difficult. I knew they would be but like this too???? Did anyone else feel depressed and like this? Will it get better? Or am I nuts? I feel ignorant. Thanks, Abby
Guest guest
Abby, Contact the doctor, let him know how your feeling. I was having problems with the Prednisone, and I think it can cause depression also. Don't feel like your ignorant, it's the meds, let us know how your doing, call the doc, Tawny > Hi all.... > > I'm taking Sulfasalazine and 5 mg Prednisone every day. Guest guest
Abby, I have taken Azulfidine En-tabs (Sulfasalazine - slow release) for four years, taking the maximum dose. It is recommended that one eat something just before taking this drug, drink a full glass of water when taking as well as plenty of fluid throughout the day. For me, the medication did not cause difficulty with depression. It is notoriously difficult on ones stomach and I have to take another rx to help that, also the dosage was gradually increased over time. I also experimented with different foods until I found the best solution for me....in other words don't take this medication with just a tablespoon of something lite especially when taking the maximum dosage. It does take time for this drug to help RA and seems like is usually given in conjunction with other arthritis medications. I can't speak to the effects of prednisone or the combination of the two drugs. Of course, the best advise is to check with your pharmacist and doctor. BTW, this is one of the drugs that can cause you to be more sensitive to sunlight. Hope you are feeling better soon. Janie <<<I'm taking Sulfasalazine and 5 mg Prednisone every day. Cary Yes it sure does. I took 60 mg of it for awhile and it didn't make me eat or anything. I'm taking 5 mg now and it's helping so who knows. I did look up sulfasalazine in the reference books at work and number 1 'non serious' adverse affect was headache followed by depression, gi effects, etc..... yet everything else I read about in RA books lists side effects as being GI effects. Maybe I'm just frustrated by it all. Abby
