Generally the discount airlines are not included in sites like expedia, but are very frequently very cheap. I don't know where you live to know what discount airlines might serve you. Where I live Southwest Airlines is a real " biggie " and I find very cheap fares there. Most airlines also offer a service where they will email you info about special fares, sales, etc. on routes you are interested in. All airlines have a day of the week when new and/or lower fares are announced. If the sale price is particularly good, seats at those fares go fast. So it is important to know exactly when airlines make those announcements and either go directly to their web site or call them for lowest available fares............the web site is usually the best bet because then you aren't depending on a person being willing to take the extra effort to make a thorough search, although I have to say I've also had some fantastic airline csr's who have worked very hard to find me the very best price. Key thing is to explore all of your options, get organized and educate yourself. Knowing what days an airline releases " sales " , and approximate time of day, so you know the best time to check for fares is very helpful in finding the best deal. Also, be prepared to take action and make your purchase immediately when you do find that " perfect priced " ticket. I've seen all of the really cheap seats sell out within five minutes of when offered. I've done this for myself and family members for about ten years and have found some really fantastic prices by knowing how to do it. As an example, my husband and I flew across country, First Class, round trip for $56 each when the normal " excellent price " for coach tickets was $300 - $400!!! Good luck.
