I have the same problem here in Texas. The pharmamcist is rationing the

supply that they do have instock and only re-filling for current patients. Then

you can only get one bottle at a time. So I am here waiting until the shortage

is over to restart on my MTX injections.

No one seems to know why there is a shortage. I was wondering if there was a

problem with the plant that makes the medication....or a major shift in the

supplier. Who knows...I guess we just sit and wait.

See if you can get at least one vial or if things get really bad you could

ask your doc if you can come in to the office for injections from him. I know

the docs have they big bottles unlike the small 1-2 cc bottles i have been

getting.

, I am finally getting back to you. I believe the manufacturer

for Methotrexate injectable is Mayne Pharma. The name my pharmacist

gave me was Xanodyne but they referred me to Mayne. According to my

local pharmacist there is no longer a ship-by date posted. I find

this hard to believe. How is everyone else getting their MTX? Do

most poeple take the pill form?

Sue, maybe this is the root of the problem:

" Mayne Group Limited has reached agreement with Xanodyne Pharmacal, Inc.

for the acquisition of two injectable oncology products, methotrexate

sodium (methotrexate) and leucovorin calcium (leucovorin), in the US

market.

Methotrexate is indicated for use in treating a range of cancers, while

leucovorin is used to counteract the toxic side effects of certain

chemotherapy treatments, including methotrexate. Mayne is acquiring the

trademarks, dossiers and associated contracts for both products. The

total purchase price is $US6.6 million plus inventory at cost, and the

forecast EBITA contribution for the 12 months following the acquisition

is expected to be in the order of $US2.0 million.

Mayne expects to take over selling the products in November this year.

Markets for both products are mature. "

(October 2003)

I don't have the numbers, but I would guess that most people using MTX

for RA are taking it orally rather than by injection.

I'll tell you where to go!

I had the same problem so my doctor changed me to the pills. I take

eight per week. Hopefully, the injectable will be available soon. You

may need to talk to your doctor about alternatives.

Yep, can't take the pills because of an ulcer. I'll have to keep

searching I guess. I read an article in Time that said Merck is

working on an injectable anti-inflammatory. It's about time, Ansaid

worked great for me until the ulcer. Even if they'd come out with a

patch it would be wonderful. I could them come off the Hydrocodone,

I hope.

The lack of MTX isn't good, but I have a humorous/pitiful problem with mine.

My hospital pharmacy has given me 4 cc vials without preservative, and want

me to inject 1.2 cc each week and throw the rest out! They charged me for

only the amount I'd use each week, so I'm getting a bargain (I guess). Maybe

if you lived close to me, we could share the vials. Removing with clean new

syringes shouldn't cause any problems.
