I think that is just awful that your in-laws force fed this child probably

causing her to have pneumonia. If you end up in the hospital can you ask

them if the discharge instructions can possibly say that it was possibly

caused by aspiration and that she should not be fed foods that she can

safely swallow such as solids?

If not, can 's pcp write such a note. If you don't have an apology

and a promise from your in laws that it won't happen again, I would tell

them you cannot possibly leave her alone with them as it would be very

unsafe. I know how hard it is needing respite, unfortunately it's another

burden we must bear. Not only do we need a break, but we can't get anyone

qualified to leave our kids with safely.

P.S. Casey and others--your stories on senseless remarks are blowing me

away. I thought I had taken the cake with the remarks I'd heard. BTW, how

about replying (I forget who's post this was) Are you really

that.........(pause) INSENSITVE?!
