Guest guest
Greetings...can anyone out there help me? My doc.recently changed me from Embrel, taked twice a week to Humira, taken once a week. What is the difference? I don't feel any change in my body yet,and I was wondering...is Humira a stronger drug? How long does it take to affect a change? The one thing I DO know, is that it never really hurt, giving myself injections of Embrel, but with Humira,it HURTS to put the needle in my thigh, and it feels like I am injecting acid into me! It burns so badly for about five minutes....am I just being a baby about it? Has anybody else out there experienced these effects, or is it just me? I'm really starting to worry. I thought as I took it more and more, the burning would go away, but it hasn't. Is Humira " stronger " than Embrel? Can anyone give me an answer? God Bless you all, and thank you. love, ken __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I am on Humira, and I'm not sure what the difference is, and a can answer that one. With the Humira it does cause burning when injecting. It helps if you inject it very slow, it burns less, promise. Also, you might have a little swelling at first, you can use an ice pack before, and after the injection. I have been on it since last Dec, getting to be a pro, not much burn, and no swelling. My prayers are with you, Tawny > > Greetings...can anyone out there help me? My > doc.recently changed me from Embrel, taked twice a week > to Humira, taken once a week. > What is the difference? Guest guest
Ken, Enbrel and Humira are very similar. They are both anti-TNF biologics and have roughly equal efficacy. Many group members have commented on the burning sensation they notice when injecting Humira. I've posted some injection tips from the manufacturer in a separate post. Hope they help you. I'll tell you where to go! Guest guest
Hi Ken, I was switched from Enbrel to Humira about 8 months ago. My rheumy wanted to switch me because with Humira you can " double up " the dose (Humira is normally every other week doses but the FDA approved it weekly, as well as approval from my insurance company). After getting my flares from pregnancy and breastfeeding (had to give up most all meds taken so flares were out of control) resolved on Humira, we tried switching me back to Enbrel (my suggestion because of the very unpleasant injections, i was loving enbrel after humira) but enbrel never worked the same for me....anyway, I am back on Humira and struggling through the injections. Yes, they burn like crazy, I have yet been able to do my own, poor husband has to do them for me. I will try some of the suggestions to see if that helps. Also anxious to see what other responses come up. I did always like Enbrel, it just never worked for me after this last pregnancy (as I've learned it all gets worse with each pregnancy). Good Luck, DeeDee > > Greetings...can anyone out there help me? My > doc.recently changed me from Embrel, taked twice a week > to Humira, taken once a week. > What is the difference? Guest guest
Hi everyone, I thought I would throw in my experience with Humira. I have been taking it for 4 months now (prior to that I was on mtx injection 1 x week) I had to go off the mtx because of problems it caused with my lungs. Right now my husband gives me my shots - he took over when I fell and broke my wrist last winter. I find that when he gives me the shot, as long as he pushes the humira in slowly, I don't have a problem with too much burning. If he pushes it in so that I feel the burn he slows down right away. So far, with the way he is doing it, I have not had any site reactions or any other problems. I also take planquenil with the humira. Guest guest
Ken, Enbrel is now approved for once a week 50 mg doses rather than 25 mg twice a week. Starting around January they will be packaging the enbrel in the 50 mg once a week doses that are already mixed, so no mixing is necessary. Enbrel and Humira are very similar, although some people say one works better than the other for them. Hopefully the advise given by other members will help. a On Tue, 30 Nov 2004 07:07:00 -0800 (PST), kenneth samuelsen <squarehead52@...> wrote: > > > Greetings...can anyone out there help me?
